DataOne Software alternatives

Alternatives to DataOne Software for VIN decoding and vehicle data in Canada, led by Cardog, with coverage and pricing linked to each vendor's own pages.

Cardog is the alternative to DataOne Software built for Canadian vehicles. We decode 99.77% of Canadian VINs to trim level, list Transport Canada and NHTSA recalls for the same VIN, serve spec sheets with units and Canadian prices in CAD, and publish self-serve pricing from US$30 a month with a free plan that includes Canadian VINs from the first call. Other VIN and vehicle data providers are listed below with what their own pages say.

This page is written by Cardog, so read it with that in mind. Every claim about another company links to that company's own public page, and we checked those pages on 2026-10-27. Every Cardog claim is something our API serves today.

About DataOne Software

DataOne's FAQ says its scope "is the US and Canadian markets." Pricing is custom: "We work with prospects and customers to understand their needs and intended use and then provide a custom, accurate quote." Canadian data is not turned on by default in free trials and is enabled on request (FAQ). VINBasic Canadian covers the 2001 to current model years, delivered as an API web service or a delimited file with daily updates over SFTP (VINBasic). The VIN Decoder API is a "REST-based HTTPS interface" (VIN Decoder API).

Cardog

Cardog is a vehicle data API from a Canadian company, built for Canadian vehicles first.

  • Canadian VINs to trim. GET /v2/vin/{vin} decodes 99.77% of Canadian VINs to trim level, on every plan including Free. See Decode a Canadian VIN.
  • Transport Canada and NHTSA recalls. GET /v2/vin/{vin}/recalls lists both authorities' campaigns for the VIN's model year, each tagged tc or nhtsa. See Recalls.
  • Spec sheets with units. GET /v2/specs/{nano} states every number with its unit and lists Canadian and US prices apart, in CAD and USD.
  • Canadian listings and market quotes. Listing search with prices in CAD and radius in kilometres, and model-year market quotes, keyed to the same refs as the decode.
  • Batches of 1,000. POST /v2/vin/batch decodes up to 1,000 VINs a request, and one bad VIN fails only its own row.
  • Published, self-serve pricing. 2 credits per VIN looked up, 1 per spec sheet, 5 per VIN recall check, from one credit balance.
  • Clients and agents. TypeScript and Python SDKs, a remote MCP server at mcp.cardog.io, and a dated Cardog-Version header, with each version served for 12 months after the next one lands.

J.D. Power ChromeData

The ChromeData VIN Descriptions Service (CVD) is a RESTful service whose GET /vin and PUT /vin operations return descriptive vehicle content: features, packages, tech specs and other attributes (CVD). Its API portal requires an active account, set up through support (API portal).

Mobility Global VINtelligence

The VIN decoder from S&P Global Mobility, now Mobility Global Inc. Its 2022 datasheet lists Base, Standard, Plus and Deluxe packages, weekly data updates, and hosted or deployed delivery, with a phone number for sales (datasheet).

VinAudit

A VIN decoder that "covers most makes and models across the U.S. and Canada" for standard 17-character VINs, in JSON or XML. Self-Service is $100 a month plus $0.10 a query; Enterprise is by contact (product page).

MarketCheck NeoVIN

MarketCheck's enhanced decoder returns installed options with code, MSRP and a confidence score, option packages, colours with codes and several MSRP fields (NeoVIN). NeoVIN is $0.08 a call, on plans from Basic at $299 a month plus data fees (pricing).

Where Cardog fits

Cardog is the vehicle API for teams whose vehicles are Canadian. One key answers who the vehicle is down to trim, which Transport Canada and NHTSA campaigns cover its model year, what its spec sheet says in metric units, and what it lists for in Canada, priced in CAD. Prices are published, so you can size a project before you sign up: start on the Free plan, then move to a paid plan from US$30 a month. See Pricing, the docs and Cardog vs DataOne Software.
