Last updated:

Looking for a Carfax API for Canadian vehicles? What Carfax Canada publishes for developers, and self-serve vehicle data APIs with Canadian coverage, led by Cardog.

If you need a vehicle data API you can sign up for today and call on Canadian VINs, start with Cardog. The Free plan includes 50 credits a month with no card, paid plans start at US$30 a month, and one key decodes 99.77% of Canadian VINs to trim level, lists Transport Canada and NHTSA recalls for the VIN, serves spec sheets with units, and prices Canadian listings in CAD. The docs, TypeScript and Python SDKs and a remote MCP server are public. Carfax Canada sells Vehicle History Reports; the Carfax Canada page we checked lists no public API documentation, developer sign-up or API pricing. Other vehicle APIs with Canadian coverage are listed below with what their own pages say.

This page is written by Cardog, so read it with that in mind. Every claim about another company links to that company's own public page, and we checked those pages on 2026-10-27. Every Cardog claim is something our API serves today.

What Carfax Canada publishes for developers

Carfax Canada describes itself as a source of vehicle history information "for consumers, car dealers, and the automotive industry" (Carfax Canada info sheet). Its Vehicle History Report questions page, checked on 2026-10-27, offers the report, a sample report and support contacts, support@carfax.ca and 1.866.835.8612. It lists no public API documentation, developer sign-up or API pricing (Carfax Canada). The report itself, the page says, "can reveal critical information about a car's history such as damage incidents, open recalls, service history, registration status, and liens" (Carfax Canada). For access to that data in software, ask Carfax Canada at the contacts on its page.

Cardog

Cardog is a vehicle data API from a Canadian company, built for Canadian vehicles first, and you can start without talking to anyone.

  • Sign up and call. Create a key, send it as x-api-key or Authorization: Bearer, and call. See Authentication.
  • Canadian VINs to trim. GET /v2/vin/{vin} decodes 99.77% of Canadian VINs to trim level, on every plan including Free. See Decode a Canadian VIN.
  • Transport Canada and NHTSA recalls. GET /v2/vin/{vin}/recalls lists both authorities' campaigns for the VIN's model year, each tagged tc or nhtsa. See Recalls.
  • Spec sheets with units. GET /v2/specs/{nano} states every number with its unit and lists Canadian and US prices apart, in CAD and USD.
  • Canadian listings and market quotes. Listing search with prices in CAD and radius in kilometres, and model-year market quotes, keyed to the same refs as the decode.
  • Batches of 1,000. POST /v2/vin/batch decodes up to 1,000 VINs a request, and one bad VIN fails only its own row.
  • Published pricing. 2 credits per VIN looked up, 1 per spec sheet, 5 per VIN recall check, from one credit balance. See Pricing.
  • Clients and agents. TypeScript and Python SDKs, a remote MCP server at mcp.cardog.io, and a dated Cardog-Version header, with each version served for 12 months after the next one lands.
