Clutch alternatives
Last updated:
Alternatives to Clutch for buying a used car in Canada, led by Cardog's free listings, VIN pages and market prices, with Canada Drives and AutoTrader.ca from their own pages.
Cardog is the alternative to Clutch that lets you check any used car in Canada against the market before you buy it, wherever it is listed. Browse listings from dealers across Canada in CAD, open any car's VIN on cardog.app/vin to see what it is down to trim, the recalls Transport Canada lists for its model year and what comparable cars are asking, and read the market quote for any make, model and year. It is free and needs no account. Canada Drives and AutoTrader.ca are other ways Canadians shop for a car, and each is described below from its own pages.
This page is written by Cardog, so read it with that in mind. Every claim about another company links to that company's own public page, and we checked those pages on 2026-10-27. Every Cardog claim is something our free tools show today.

Cardog
Cardog is a free research and shopping site for Canadian cars, built around the VIN.
- Listings across Canada. Browse cars from dealers across the country, filtered by make, model, price and more, priced in CAD.
- Every car's VIN, read. Each listed car opens to its VIN page: year, make, model and trim, the check digit, and its asking price next to the market. Cardog decodes 99.77% of Canadian VINs to trim level.
- Any car, from any seller. Paste the VIN of a car you found anywhere into cardog.app/vin and get the same page.
- Market prices as a range. The VIN page and the market quote show the median asking price, the middle half of asks and the lowest ask for comparable cars, with the number of live listings behind them.
- Recalls before you buy. Each VIN page lists the recalls Transport Canada has for that model year, and the recall lookup covers any make, model and year.
Canada Drives
Canada Drives says "Get pre-approved for a new car or sell your car directly to Canada Drives" (Canada Drives). To buy, you complete an online application, and "We'll connect you with a local dealership who will show you cars that you already qualify for"; it says "Typically we can have you in a new car in as little as 48 hours" (how it works). To sell, it gives "an instant offer online that is valid for 7 days" (Canada Drives). See Canada Drives alternatives.
AutoTrader.ca
AutoTrader.ca lists new, used and certified pre-owned cars and lets private sellers list with "Free to list" (AutoTrader.ca). Its Price iQ badges grade a listing "based on their price relative to similar vehicles in their area" (Price iQ). See AutoTrader.ca alternatives.
What Clutch offers
Clutch describes its process as "Buy 100% online," and says it "delivers the car directly to your address." A Clutch Certified car "has been inspected, reconditioned, detailed, and certified in person by a Clutch mechanic," and "You have 10 days to love it or return it" (Clutch Certified). Its inspection "covers 210 individual checkpoints across nine areas of the car" (210-point inspection).
Check any car before you buy
- Get the VIN. It is on the listing, on the dashboard through the windshield and on the driver's door jamb sticker.
- Open it on Cardog. Paste it into cardog.app/vin and confirm the year, make, model and trim match the listing.
- Read the recalls. Check the recalls Transport Canada lists for the model year, then confirm open ones on the maker's own lookup.
- Price it. Compare the asking price with the median and middle half on the VIN page, or open the market quote.
