Safety Recalls & Notices
Issue: On a small number of vehicles, the brake lines for the rear wheels may not have been connected to the control module properly. As a result, the antilock braking system (ABS) and electronic stability program (ESP) systems may not work correctly. Safety Risk: An antilock braking system and electronic stability control system that doesn't work correctly could increase the risk of a crash. Corrective Actions: McLaren will notify owners by mail and advise you to take your vehicle to a dealership to inspect and, if necessary, correct the brake line connections.
Issue: On certain vehicles, the rear window may not be properly attached. As a result, under certain conditions, the rear window could separate from the vehicle while driving. Safety Risk: A rear window that detaches from the vehicle could create a road hazard for others and increase the risk of a crash. Corrective Actions: To reduce the safety risk, McLaren recommends not to drive your vehicle on a racetrack until the recall repairs have been completed. McLaren will notify owners by mail and advise you to take your vehicle to a dealership to install additional fasteners to secure the rear window.
Issue: On certain vehicles, the release cable for the hood latch may be too tight. As a result, the latch could release, and the hood may open suddenly while driving. Safety Risk: A hood that opens suddenly while driving could block the driver's view and increase the risk of a crash. Corrective Actions: McLaren will notify owners by mail and advise you to take your vehicle to a dealership to replace the hood latch.
Issue: On certain vehicles, the low-pressure fuel pipe assembly could disconnect. If this happens, fuel could leak in the engine compartment. Safety Risk: A fuel leak can create the risk of a fire. Corrective Actions: McLaren will notify owners by mail and advise you to take your vehicle to a dealership to replace the low-pressure fuel pipe assembly.
Issue: Under certain conditions, the joint between the engine coolant temperature sensor housing and coolant pipe could fail. If this happens, coolant could leak while driving. Safety Risk: A coolant leak could lead to a fire in the engine bay. Corrective Action: McLaren will notify owners by mail and advise you to bring your vehicle to a dealership to replace the engine coolant temperature sensor housing and hose. McLaren recommends not to drive your vehicle on a racetrack until the recall repairs have been completed.
Issue: On certain vehicles, the nuts securing the fuel pipes to the high-pressure fuel pump may loosen and create a fuel leak. Safety Risk: A fuel leak can increase the risk of a fire. Corrective Action: McLaren will notify owners by mail and instruct you to bring your vehicle to a dealer to replace the high-pressure fuel pipes. McLaren advises owners not to drive your vehicle on a racetrack until the recall repairs have been completed.
Issue: On certain vehicles, the connector on the driver's airbag may not be locked in place. If the connector comes loose, the airbag may not inflate in a crash. Safety Risk: An airbag that does not work properly could increase the risk of injury in a crash. Corrective Actions: McLaren will notify owners by mail and instruct you to take your vehicle to a dealer to inspect it and ensure that the driver's airbag is properly connected.
Issue: On a small number of vehicles, a defective bolt may restrict fluid pressure to the brake caliper. As a result, there may be no braking on one wheel. If your vehicle has this problem, you may notice reduced braking, or feel the vehicle pull to the left or right while braking. Safety Risk: Reduced braking could increase the risk of a crash. Corrective Actions: McLaren will notify owners by mail and instruct you to take your vehicle to a dealer to inspect the brake hose banjo bolt on each brake caliper. The bolts will be replaced, if required.
Issue: On certain vehicles, the foam pad between the floor and the fuel tank could retain moisture. Over time, this moisture could cause corrosion to the tank and result in a fuel leak. Safety Risk: A fuel leak can create the risk of a fire. Corrective Actions: McLaren will notify owners by mail and instruct you to take your vehicle to a dealer to remove the foam pad from the floor panel of the vehicle. Dealers will also inspect the fuel tank, and repair or replace it as necessary.
Issue: The engine wire harness may contact a heat shield in the engine compartment. Over time, this could cause wear and result in damage to electrical wires. If this happens, it could cause problems with engine performance, including: entering idle limp mode, causing torque limitation, engine misfire, engine stall and/or a build-up of unburnt fuel in the catalyst. Safety Risk: A sudden loss of engine power could increase the risk of a crash. A build-up of unburnt fuel in the catalyst could cause it to overheat, increasing the risk of fire. Corrective Actions: McLaren will notify dealers and advise them to contact each vehicle owner by telephone to advise them of this problem. The dealer will arrange for a service appointment so that the engine wire harness can be inspected and repaired as required.
