Issue: On certain vehicles, a seal for the suction jet pump inside the fuel tank could fail. As a result, fuel may flow directly into the evaporative emission control system (EVAP). If this happens, fuel could leak from the charcoal canister. Note: This problem could cause a fuel odor, the fuel nozzle to stop early and/or fuel to spill when refueling. Safety Risk: A fuel leak can create the risk of a fire. Corrective Actions: The company will notify owners by mail and advise you to take your vehicle to a dealership to replace the suction jet pump.
Issue: On certain vehicles equipped with a key ignition switch, a fuse in the ignition switch could fail. If this happens, the vehicle can lose power while driving and cause the engine to stall. This could also cause the airbag system and turn signals not to work. Safety Risk: A sudden loss of power could increase the risk of a crash. An airbag system that doesn't work properly could increase the risk of injury in a crash. Corrective Actions: Volkswagen will notify owners by mail and advise you to take your vehicle to a dealership to replace the ignition switch.
Issue: On certain vehicles, the airbag control module may not be mounted properly. As a result, the airbag may not inflate in a crash, or it could inflate suddenly while driving. Additionally, an airbag that inflates suddenly while driving could increase the risk of injury or a crash. Corrective Action: Volkswagen will notify owners by mail and instruct you to bring your vehicle to a dealer to replace the airbag control module.
Issue: On certain vehicles, the driver's seat frame may not have been properly welded. As a result, the seat frame could fail and move in a crash. Corrective Actions: Volkswagen will notify owners by mail and instruct you to take your vehicle to a dealer to inspect the driver's seat. The seat frame will be replaced, as necessary.
Issue: On certain vehicles, a front brake hose may be too long and could rub against the steering mechanism. This can cause damage to the hose that could result in a brake fluid leak. If this happens, a driver may have reduced braking. Safety Risk: Reduced braking can cause extended stopping distances and increase the risk of a crash. Corrective Actions: Volkswagen will notify owners by mail and instruct you to take your vehicle to a dealer to inspect the front brake hose. It will be replaced, if necessary.
Issue: On certain vehicles, parts of the front seat frame and backrest adjuster may not have been properly welded. Corrective Actions: The company will notify owners by mail and instruct you to take your vehicle to a dealer to inspect the driver and passenger front seats. The seatback frames will be replaced, as necessary.
Issue: On certain vehicles, the front brake caliper mounting bolts may not be properly tightened. This could cause the bolts to loosen, which may result in reduced brake effectiveness. Safety Risk: Reduced brake effectiveness could cause an increase in stopping distance and create the risk of a crash. Corrective Actions: Volkswagen will notify owners and instruct you to take your vehicle to a dealer to replace the front brake caliper mounting bolts.
