The auxiliary heater elements are being recovered to aid in Volkswagen's analysis in support of Transport Canada defect investigation file no. 3280-15-10. Note: This action is not being conducted under the requirements of the Motor Vehicle Safety Act. For the 2016 model year Jetta, only the Jetta Hybrid model is involved in this parts recovery program. Corrective Actions: Volkswagen will notify owners by mail and advise them to take their vehicle to a dealership to replace the auxiliary heater element at no charge.
Issue: On certain vehicles, the year of manufacture listed on the compliance label is incorrect. Canadian regulations require the month and year of the vehicle's date of manufacture to be listed on the compliance label. Corrective Actions: Volkswagen will notify owners by mail and advise you to take your vehicle to a dealership to install an overlay (label) on the compliance label.
Issue: On certain vehicles, a seal for the suction jet pump inside the fuel tank could fail. As a result, fuel may flow directly into the evaporative emission control system (EVAP). If this happens, fuel could leak from the charcoal canister. Note: This problem could cause a fuel odor, the fuel nozzle to stop early and/or fuel to spill when refueling. Safety Risk: A fuel leak can create the risk of a fire. Corrective Actions: The company will notify owners by mail and advise you to take your vehicle to a dealership to replace the suction jet pump.
Issue: On certain vehicles equipped with a key ignition switch, a fuse in the ignition switch could fail. If this happens, the vehicle can lose power while driving and cause the engine to stall. This could also cause the airbag system and turn signals not to work. Safety Risk: A sudden loss of power could increase the risk of a crash. An airbag system that doesn't work properly could increase the risk of injury in a crash. Corrective Actions: Volkswagen will notify owners by mail and advise you to take your vehicle to a dealership to replace the ignition switch.
Issue: Under certain conditions, the rearview camera image may not appear on the center screen. Canadian regulations require the rearview image to display when the transmission is shifted into reverse gear. Safety Risk: A rearview camera image that does not display could reduce a driver's ability to see behind the vehicle while backing up. This could increase the risk of a crash. Corrective Actions: Volkswagen will notify owners by mail and instruct you to take your vehicle to a dealership to update the infotainment software.
Issue: On certain vehicles, the airbag control module may not be mounted properly. As a result, the airbag may not inflate in a crash, or it could inflate suddenly while driving. Safety Risk: An airbag that does not inflate properly could increase the risk of injury in a crash. Additionally, an airbag that inflates suddenly while driving could increase the risk of injury or a crash. Corrective Action: Volkswagen will notify owners by mail and instruct you to bring your vehicle to a dealer to replace the airbag control module.
Issue: On certain vehicles, the driver's seat frame may not have been properly welded. As a result, the seat frame could fail and move in a crash. Corrective Actions: Volkswagen will notify owners by mail and instruct you to take your vehicle to a dealer to inspect the driver's seat. The seat frame will be replaced, as necessary.
Issue: On certain vehicles, a front brake hose may be too long and could rub against the steering mechanism. This can cause damage to the hose that could result in a brake fluid leak. If this happens, a driver may have reduced braking. Safety Risk: Reduced braking can cause extended stopping distances and increase the risk of a crash. Corrective Actions: Volkswagen will notify owners by mail and instruct you to take your vehicle to a dealer to inspect the front brake hose. It will be replaced, if necessary.
Issue: On certain vehicles, a software problem could cause the rearview camera image not to display or cause it to freeze. Canadian regulations require the rearview image to display when the transmission is shifted into reverse gear. Safety Risk: A rearview camera image that does not display could reduce a driver's ability to see behind the vehicle while backing up. This could increase the risk of a crash. Corrective Actions: Volkswagen will notify owners by mail and instruct you to take your vehicle to a dealer to update the rearview camera software.
Issue: On certain vehicles, the fuel rail bolts could become loose over time. If this happens, there could be a fuel odour or fuel leak in the engine compartment.
