Safety Recalls & Notices
Issue: On certain vehicles, the transmission control valve body could wear and lose pressure. If this happens, the transmission could shift harshly and cause the wheels to lock up. Note: This recall only affects vehicles equipped with a 10-speed automatic transmission. Safety Risk: Wheels that lock suddenly could cause a loss of control and increase the risk of a crash. Corrective Actions: General Motors will notify owners by mail and advise you to take your vehicle to a dealership to update the transmission control module software to detect excess wear in advance of a wheel lock up. If detected, a service engine light would turn on, a message would display in the instrument panel and the vehicle would be limited to fifth gear.
Issue: On certain vehicles, the recall repairs completed by a General Motors dealer during recall N242454440 (Transport Canada recall no. 2024-637) may not have been done correctly. As a result, a second repair is required. Over time, the transmission control valve could wear and lose pressure. If this happens, the transmission could shift harshly and could cause the rear wheels to lock up. Note: This recall only affects vehicles equipped with a diesel engine. Safety Risk: Rear wheels that lock suddenly could cause a loss of control and increase the risk of a crash.
Issue: Under certain conditions, a software problem could cause the passenger-front airbag to deploy with too much force. Note: This recall only affects certain vehicles equipped with the AT4X AEV (American Expedition Vehicle) option. Safety Risk: An airbag that inflates with too much force could create an increased risk of injury in a crash. Corrective Actions: General Motors will notify owners by mail and advise you to take your vehicle to a dealership to update the airbag sensing and diagnostic module (SDM) software.
Issue: On a small number of vehicles, a connection in the wiring for the passenger-front airbag may not have been secured properly and could loosen. As a result, the airbag may not inflate in a crash. Safety Risk: An airbag that doesn't work properly could increase the risk of injury in a crash. Corrective Actions: None of the affected vehicles have been delivered to customers. General Motors will instruct dealers to repair the wiring for the passenger-front airbag before each vehicle is delivered.
Issue: On certain trucks, the malfunction indicator for the electronic stability control (ESC) system could turn off even if there's a problem with the ESC system. Safety Risk: A driver that isn't aware of a problem with the ESC system could have an increased risk of a crash. Corrective Actions: General Motors will notify owners by mail and send a wireless over-the-air software update to eligible vehicles to update the electronic brake control module software. Alternatively, you may schedule an appointment to have the update performed at a GM dealership.
Issue: On certain trucks, the side curtain airbag inflators could be defective. As a result, the driver and/or passenger side curtain airbag inflator(s) could deploy without a crash. If this happens, parts could be propelled toward vehicle occupants. Safety Risk: An airbag inflator that ruptures can create a risk of injury. Corrective Actions: General Motors will notify owners by mail and advise you to take your truck to a dealership to replace both side curtain airbag modules.
Issue: On certain trucks, water could leak into the exterior tailgate switch. As a result, the tailgate could unlatch and open unexpectedly while parked. If this happens, cargo that is not secured could fall out of the truck bed and onto the road when the vehicle is moving. Note: This recall only affects trucks equipped with a power-locking tailgate. This is an expansion of recall N232426400 (Transport Canada recall no. 2024-061). Safety Risk: Cargo that falls from the truck bed could create a road hazard for others and increase the risk of a crash. Corrective Actions: General Motors will notify owners by mail and advise you to take your truck to a dealership to replace the exterior tailgate switch. To reduce the safety risk, General Motors recommends that you should inspect the tailgate to ensure it's closed and latched before driving.
Issue: On a small number of vehicles, the head restraint on the front passenger seat may not have been properly welded. As a result, the head restraint could move or detach from the seat in a crash. Safety Risk: A head restraint that moves or detaches in a crash could increase the risk of an injury. Corrective Actions: General Motors will notify owners by mail and advise you to take your vehicle to a dealership to inspect and, if necessary, replace the front passenger seat frame.
Issue: On certain vehicles, the connecting rods and/or crankshaft components may not have been manufactured properly. As a result, the engine could make abnormal noises and a warning light may turn on. If you continue to drive the vehicle with these symptoms, the engine could fail. Note: This recall only affects certain vehicles equipped with a 6.2 L V8 gas engine. Safety Risk: An engine failure could cause a sudden loss of power to the wheels and increase the risk of a crash. Corrective Actions: General Motors will notify owners by mail and advise you to take your vehicle to inspect and, if necessary, repair or replace the engine. For vehicles that pass the engine inspection, the dealer will replace the oil with a higher viscosity oil, install a new oil fill cap, replace the oil filter, and add an insert to the owner's manual.
Issue: On certain vehicles, a beam inside the driver's door may not have been welded properly. As a result, side impact protection may be reduced in a crash. Safety Risk: Reduced side impact protection could increase the risk of injuries in a crash. Corrective Actions: General Motors will notify owners by mail and advise you to take your vehicle to a dealership to replace the driver's door.
