Issue: This recall is for supercharger upgrade kits that were installed before delivery or purchased from a dealer as an aftermarket accessory. Under certain conditions, the upgrade kit's powertrain control module (PCM) software may not work properly and could turn off certain safety features. If this happens, the vehicle could move and/or accelerate unexpectedly. Note: This recall only affects vehicles equipped with a 5.0 L engine. This problem could cause a malfunction indicator light or a wrench light to turn on in the instrument cluster. Safety Risk: A vehicle that moves and/or accelerates suddenly could create the risk of a crash. Corrective Actions: Ford will notify owners by mail and advise you to take your vehicle to a dealership to update the PCM software.
Issue: On certain vehicles, the body seams may not have been sealed properly. As a result, water could leak into the body control module (BCM). If this happens, the front and rear side marker lights, taillights and license plate lights may not work and/or flicker. Safety Risk: Exterior lights that don't work and/or flicker could make the vehicle less visible to others and increase the risk of a crash. Corrective Actions: Ford will notify owners by mail and advise you to take your vehicle to a dealership to inspect the body seams for proper sealing. The dealer will also inspect and, if necessary, replace the BCM.
Issue: On certain vehicles, a software problem could cause the rearview camera image not to display when the transmission is shifted into reverse. Canadian regulations require the rearview image to display when the vehicle is reversing. Safety Risk: A rearview camera image that doesn't display could reduce a driver's ability to see behind the vehicle while backing up. This could increase the risk of a crash. Corrective Actions: Ford will notify owners by mail and advise you to take your vehicle to a dealership to update the SYNC software.
Issue: On certain vehicles, a software problem could cause the rearview camera image not to display or to freeze when the transmission is shifted into reverse. Safety Risk: A rearview camera image that doesn't display correctly could reduce a driver's ability to see behind the vehicle while backing up. This could increase the risk of a crash. Corrective Actions: Ford will notify owners by mail and send a wireless over-the-air software update to eligible vehicles to update the SYNC software. Alternatively, you may schedule an appointment to have the update performed at a Ford dealership.
Issue: On certain vehicles, a software problem could cause the instrument panel cluster screen not to display. As a result, you may not be able to see certain information about the vehicle, including the speedometer, warning lights and malfunction tell-tales. Safety Risk: Warnings, tell-tales and gauges that don't display could increase the risk of a crash. Corrective Actions: Ford will notify owners by mail and advise you to take your vehicle to a dealership to update the instrument panel cluster software.
Issue: On certain vehicles, the rear suspension knuckles may not have been manufactured properly. As a result, the knuckles could crack and/or break and cause a sudden loss of vehicle stability. Safety Risk: A loss of vehicle stability could cause a loss of control and increase the risk of a crash. Corrective Actions: Ford will notify owners by mail and advise you to take your vehicle to a dealership to inspect and, if necessary, replace the rear suspension knuckles.
Issue: On certain vehicles, the clutch pressure line may not be properly secured to the firewall. As a result, the line could contact hot exhaust components and melt. If this happens, fluid could leak and you would not be able to change gears. Safety Risk: An inability to change gears could increase the risk of a crash. Additionally, oil that leaks onto hot components can create the risk of a fire. Corrective Actions: Ford will notify owners by mail and advise you to take your vehicle to a Ford dealership to inspect and, if necessary, replace the clutch pressure line. The dealer will also secure the line to the firewall, as necessary.
Issue: On certain vehicles, the low-pressure fuel supply line may have been damaged during production. As a result, fuel could leak in the engine compartment. This could also result in a loss of power to the wheels. Note: This recall only affects vehicles equipped with a 2.3 L engine. Safety Risk: A fuel leak can create the risk of a fire. A loss of power to the wheels could increase the risk of a crash. Corrective Actions: Ford will notify owners by mail and advise you to take your vehicle to a dealership to replace the low-pressure fuel supply line.
