Issue: On certain vehicles, the cells inside the high-voltage battery module(s) may not have been manufactured properly. As a result, the battery could overheat. Safety Risk: A battery that overheats can create a fire risk, even while the vehicle is parked and turned off. Corrective Actions: To reduce the safety risk, Volkswagen advises that you should set the maximum charge setting of your vehicle at 80%, that you shouldn't use level 3 quick charging and that you should park your vehicle outdoors and away from other vehicles or structures until the recall repairs have been completed. Volkswagen will notify owners by mail and advise you to take your vehicle to a dealership to replace the high-voltage battery module(s).

Issue: On certain vehicles, certain bolt(s) on the chassis, brake system and/or suspension may not have been tightened properly. As a result, the bolt(s) could loosen and cause a loss of control. Safety Risk: A loss of control could increase the risk of a crash. Corrective Actions: Volkswagen will notify owners by mail and advise you to take your vehicle to a dealership to replace the affected bolt(s) on the chassis, brake system and/or suspension.
Issue: On certain vehicles, the on-board charger (OCDC) could fail. As a result, the 12 V battery will not charge and could cause a loss of power to the wheels. Note: This problem will cause warning lights to turn on and warning messages to display before any loss of power. Safety Risk: A loss of power to the wheels may increase the risk of a crash. Corrective Actions: The company will notify owners by mail and advise you to take your vehicle to a dealership to replace the on-board charger (OCDC).
Issue: On certain vehicles, water could leak into the door handle(s). If this happens, the door(s) could open unexpectedly while driving. Note: This problem could cause a clicking noise that sounds like a door being locked or unlocked. Safety Risk: A door that opens while driving could create a risk of injury. Corrective Actions: Volkswagen will notify owners by mail and advise you to take your vehicle to a dealership to inspect and, if necessary, replace the door handles. The dealer will also update the vehicle software.
Issue: On certain vehicles, the nuts that secure the passenger-front airbag inflator may not have been properly tightened. As a result, the airbag may not inflate properly in a crash. Safety Risk: An airbag that doesn't work properly could increase the risk of injury in a crash. Corrective Actions: Volkswagen will notify owners by mail and advise you to take your vehicle to a dealership to inspect and, if necessary, replace the passenger-front airbag.
Issue: On certain vehicles, the material of the roller sunshade for the panoramic sunroof may not meet the flammability requirements of Canadian regulations. Safety Risk: In a fire, fabric that doesn't meet flammability requirements could increase the risk of injury. Corrective Actions: Volkswagen will notify owners by mail and advise you to take your vehicle to a dealership to apply a flame retardant on the roller sunshade.
Volkswagen Group of America, Inc. (Volkswagen) is recalling certain 2023-2024 ID.4 vehicles. The high voltage (HV) battery cell modules may contain misaligned electrodes that can result in a battery fire.
A vehicle fire while parked or driving can increase the risk of injury.
Owners are advised to park outside immediately after charging and not leave their vehicles charging indoors overnight until the recall repair is complete. Also, owners are advised not to use Level 3 DC chargers and to limit the maximum charge of the battery to 80% until the remedy has been completed. Dealers will replace the high voltage battery cell modules as necessary, free of charge. Interim letters, notifying owners of the safety risk, were mailed February 10, 2026. Additional letters will be sent once the final remedy is available. Owners may contact Volkswagen customer service at 1-800-893-5298. Volkswagen's number for this recall is 93EW. Dealers will update the high-voltage battery software, and replace the high-voltage battery, as necessary, free of charge. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed March 20, 2026.
