Safety Recalls & Notices
Issue: On certain vehicles, a software problem could cause the pedestrian warning system not to work properly. Canadian regulations require electric vehicles to make sounds at certain levels when operating at low speeds. Safety Risk: A pedestrian warning system that doesn't work properly could create confusion and increase the risk of injury for other road users. Corrective Actions: General Motors will notify owners by mail and send a wireless over-the-air software update to eligible vehicles to update the body control module software. Alternatively, you may schedule an appointment to have the update performed at a GM dealership.
Issue: On certain trucks, the owner's manual may be missing. As a result, the trucks may not meet certain requirements of Canadian regulations. Safety Risk: A missing owner's manual could cause confusion on how to safely operate the vehicle and increase the risk of injury or a crash. Corrective Actions: General Motors will notify owners by mail and advise you to take your truck to a dealership to install the owner's manual.
Issue: On certain vehicles, the inflator for the side curtain airbag could rupture at the inflator weld joint and cause the side curtain airbag to inflate without a crash. Note: This is an expansion of Transport Canada recall nos. 2023-520 and 2023-693. Certain vehicles that were repaired under those recalls, also require this repair. Safety Risk: A side curtain airbag that inflates without a crash could create a risk of injury. Corrective Actions: General Motors will notify owners by mail and advise you to take your vehicle to a dealership to replace the left and/or right-side curtain airbag(s).
Issue: On certain vehicles, one or more of the tires may not have been manufactured properly. As a result, the tread could separate, and the tire(s) could fail. Note: This recall only affects certain vehicles equipped with 21-inch Continental CrossContact RX 275/40R21 all-season tires with a date code of 4024. Safety Risk: A tire failure could cause a loss of control and increase the risk of a crash. Corrective Actions: General Motors will notify owners by mail and advise you to take your vehicle to a dealership to inspect and, if necessary, replace the tire(s).
Issue: On certain vehicles, the fuel tank temperature (FTT) sensor harness could become damaged by contact with the fuel pump connector and could short circuit. If this happens, the fuel pump fuse could blow and cause the engine to stall while driving. Safety Risk: A sudden loss of engine power could increase the risk of a crash. Corrective Action: General Motors will notify owners by mail and advise you to take your vehicle to a dealership to inspect and reroute the FTT harness or replace the fuel pump assembly, as necessary.
Issue: On certain vehicles, a software problem could cause the pedestrian warning system not to work properly. Safety Risk: A pedestrian warning system that doesn't work properly could create confusion and increase the risk of injury for other road users. Corrective Actions: General Motors will notify owners by mail and send a wireless over-the-air software update to eligible vehicles to update the body control module software. Issue: On certain trucks, the malfunction indicator for the electronic stability control (ESC) system could turn off even if there's a problem with the ESC system. Safety Risk: A driver that isn't aware of a problem with the ESC system could have an increased risk of a crash. Corrective Actions: General Motors will notify owners by mail and send a wireless over-the-air software update to eligible vehicles to update the electronic brake control module software. Issue: On certain vehicles, fuel could spill in the fuel filler pocket when refueling. As a result, fuel could leak onto the left-side radiator and fan assembly. Corrective Actions: General Motors will notify owners by mail and advise you to take your vehicle to a dealership to install a shield to divert spilled fuel.
Issue: On certain trucks, the side curtain airbag inflators could be defective. As a result, the driver and/or passenger side curtain airbag inflator(s) could deploy without a crash. If this happens, parts could be propelled toward vehicle occupants. Safety Risk: An airbag inflator that ruptures can create a risk of injury. Corrective Actions: General Motors will notify owners by mail and advise you to take your truck to a dealership to replace both side curtain airbag modules.
Issue: On certain vehicles, the parking brake wiring harness could become damaged and/or corroded. If this happens, the parking brake may not work and the vehicle could roll away when it's parked. This problem could also cause the parking brake to apply suddenly while driving. Safety Risk: A parked vehicle that rolls away could create the risk of an injury or a crash. Additionally, a parking brake that self-applies while driving could increase the risk of a crash. Corrective Actions: General Motors will notify owners by mail and advise you to take your vehicle to a dealership to inspect and, if necessary, reroute the wiring harness. If the harness is damaged, it will be replaced.
