Vehicles located in the high corrosion provinces east of the Manitoba/Ontario border. Certain vehicles may exhibit a condition in which the frame/cradle retainer bolts pull through the retainers due to corrosion of the retainer. If both front bolts or both rear bolts pull through, the frame/cradle would not be properly supported and the intermediate steering shaft may separate from the steering gear. If this were to occur while the vehicle was in motion, a vehicle crash could result without prior warning. Correction: Dealers will replace the front and rear frame/cradle bolts and retainers. Note: This recall superceedes TC recall 1995-010.
On certain vehicles, cracks may develop in the wheel mounting surface, and, should the cracks become severe enough, the wheel could completely separate from the vehicle. This could adversely affect steering and braking control and result in a crash without prior warning. Correction: Vehicles will be inspected and wheels falling within a specified date code range will be replaced.
On certain vehicles, the rear engine cradle bolts may pull through due to corrosion of the retainers. If this should occur, the cradle would no longer be supported at these mounting locations and the steering shaft may separate from the steering gear. This could result in loss of steering control. Correction: Rear cradle bolts and retainers will be replaced.
On certain vehicles, the steel wheels may develop cracks in the wheel mounting surface and, should the cracks become severe enough, the wheel could completely separate from the vehicle. This could adversely affect steering and braking control and result in a vehicle crash. Correction: Wheels will be inspected and replaced if required.
THE BRAKE STOPLAMP SWITCH CONTACTS MAY EITHER NOT CLOSE OR NOT OPEN RESULTING IN TWO POSSIBLE SETS OF CONDITIONS. FIRST, IF THE SWITCH CONTACTS WILL NOT CLOSE, THE BRAKE STOPLAMPS WILL NOT ILLUMINATE AND THE CRUISE CONTROL WILL NOT ENGAGE. SECOND, IF THE SWITCH CONTACTS WILL NOT OPEN, THE CONTROL WILL DISENGAGE DURING BRAKE PEDAL APPLICATION BUT WILL RE-ENGAGE WHEN THE BRAKE PEDAL IS RELEASED. (NOTE: THE CRUISE CONTROL WILL REMAIN DISENGAGED IF THE VEHICLE IS SLOWED BELOW 19-23 KILOMETRES. THE DRIVER MAY ALSO DISENGAGE THE CRUISE CONTROL MANUALLY AT THE CRUISE CONTROL SWITCH). CORRECTION: AN IMPROVED STOPLAMP SWITCH WILL BE INSTALLED ON AFFECTED VEHICLES.
Certain vehicles do not comply with CMVSS 210 - Seatbelt Assembly Anchorages. Anchor bolt may pull through the upper anchorage plate. Correction: Nut assembly with a larger diameter flanged nut will be installed in place of the existing nut assembly.
THE FUEL RETURN LINES COULD FRACTURE IN THE AREA OF THE FUEL TANK. IF UNDETECTED, LEAKING FUEL COULD CAUSE A FIRE. CORRECTION: FUEL RETURN PIPE ASSEMBLY WILL BE REPLACED.
CERTAIN REPLACEMENT FUEL FILTERS, FRAM BRAND NAME P/N G3727, WITH DATE CODES X52911 THROUGH X60801 SEQUENTIALLY OR X600141 AND A MEXICO COUNTRY OR ORIGIN MARKING ON THE FUEL FILTER HOUSING MANUFACTURED FROM OCTOBER 18, 2005, THROUGH MARCH 21, 2006, SOLD FOR USE ON THE VEHICLES LISTED ABOVE AND ON CERTAIN SCHOOL BUSES. (TO SEE THE SCHOOL BUS ENGINE SIZES, CLICK ON "DOCUMENT SEARCH" AND THEN "BUS APPLICATIONS"). THE CONNECTOR ON THE FUEL FILTER WAS NOT MANUFACTURED TO HONEYWELL'S SPECIFICATION. AS A RESULT, THE O-RING MAY NOT SEAT CORRECTLY ON THE FUEL LINE.
THIS CONDITION MAY CAUSE AN INADEQUATE SEAL AT THE CONNECTION, POTENTIALLY LEADING TO A FUEL LEAK. IN THE PRESENCE OF AN IGNITION SOURCE, A FIRE COULD OCCUR.
HONEYWELL WILL NOTIFY OWNERS AND REPLACE THE FUEL FILTERS FREE OF CHARGE. THE RECALL BEGAN ON OCTOBER 18, 2006. OWNERS MAY CONTACT FRAM CUSTOMER SERVICE AT 1-800-890-2075 (OPTION 1).
