This recall only affects vehicles that were originally sold or ever registered in areas of heavy road salt usage (Manitoba, Ontario, Quebec, New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island, and Newfoundland & Labrador). Safety Risk: A loss of vehicle stability could cause a loss of control and increase the risk of a crash. Summary

On certain vehicles, the rear outboard seats may have had seat belts improperly routed around the rear seat bolster bracket during the manufacturing process. In the event of a crash, improperly routed seat belts may not provide adequate restraint to the seat occupants which could increase the risk of injury. Correction: Dealers will inspect the rear outboard seat belts for proper routing and reroute the seat belts as necessary.

Summary

On certain vehicles equipped with 8-way power adjustable front seats, the wiring harness of the power seats may contact the seat frame and chafe. Over time, chaffed wires could cause an electrical short which could result in inoperative power seat adjustments, flickering lights on the instrument panel, sparking, smoke and potentially cause a fire which would increase the risk of a crash causing injury and/or damage to property. Correction: Dealers will inspect, repair and secure the wiring harness as necessary.

Summary

On certain vehicles, a circuit board in the power-steering assist’s power module could fail and could result in a sudden loss of electric power steering while driving. Steering control can be maintained, as the vehicle will revert to a manual steering mode, but will require greater driver effort. The sudden change in steering effort may increase the risk of a crash causing injury and/or property damage. Correction: Dealers will replace the electric belt drive rack and pinion steering gear assembly.

Summary

On certain vehicles equipped with a 3.8L engine, degradation of the front rocker cover gasket may result in eventual oil seepage. Under hard braking, drops of engine oil may be deposited on the exhaust manifold. If the manifold is hot enough and the oil runs below the heat shield, it may ignite into a small flame and, in some instances, the fire may spread to the plastic spark plug wire channel and beyond. An under-hood fire could result in injury and/or property damage. Correction: Dealers will replace the engine’s front valve cover and front-valve-cover gasket with new parts. The engine’s plastic “beauty” cover and plastic oil-fill-tube extension will also be removed, if they haven’t been already. Note: This recall supersedes and is an expansion of recalls 2008-081, 2009-105 and 2015-145. All vehicles having been inspected and/or serviced under the previous recall will require re-inspection and repair.
