Safety Recalls & Notices
Issue: Under certain conditions, the Rivian Highway Assist (HWA) advanced driver assistance system may not work properly. Safety Risk: A driver assistance system that doesn't work properly could increase the risk of a crash if the driver doesn't intervene. Corrective Actions: Rivian has already repaired all affected vehicles by releasing software update 2025.18.30 over-the-air to fix the issue. Rivian will notify owners by email. Rivian reminds that HWA is only an advanced driver assistance feature, and that the driver must pay attention and be ready to take control at all times when the feature is engaged.
Issue: On certain vehicles, the front turn signal lamps may not have been manufactured properly. As a result, one or both front turn signals may not work, and the vehicles may not meet certain requirement of Canadian regulations. Note: This problem would cause a "Turn signal lights not working. Service it soon." message to be displayed. Safety Risk: Front turn signals that don't work may cause a person not to recognize when a driver intends to turn or change lanes and could increase the risk of a crash. Corrective Action: Rivian will notify owners by email and advise you to take your vehicle to a Rivian service center to inspect and, if necessary, replace the front turn signal lamps.
Issue: On certain vehicles, the driver and/or front passenger seat belt(s) may not have been installed properly. As a result, the seat belt(s) could loosen or detach in a crash. Safety Risk: A seat belt that detaches in a crash could increase the risk of injury. Corrective Actions: Rivian will notify owners by email and advise you to take your vehicle to a Rivian service center to inspect and, if necessary, secure the front seat belts.
Issue: On certain vehicles, the headlamps may not have been manufactured properly. As a result, under certain conditions, the headlamps may not turn on and cause the vehicles not to meet certain requirements of Canadian regulations. Safety Risk: Headlamps that don't work properly can reduce visibility and could increase the risk of a crash. Corrective Actions: Rivian will notify owners by email and advise you to take your vehicle to a Rivian service center to replace the headlamp control module.
Issue: On certain vehicles, there could be a problem with the "car costume" feature included in an over-the-air software update. Under certain conditions, using the feature could cause various exterior lights not to work properly. Safety Risk: Exterior lights that don't work properly could make the vehicle less visible to others and increase the risk of a crash. Corrective Actions: To reduce the safety risk, Rivian has released an over-the-air software update to disable the feature and fix the issue. Rivian will notify affected owners by email. There is no further action required if your vehicle has software release 2024.39.31 or a later release.
Issue: On certain vehicles, a Rivian service center may have removed and reused the upper B-pillar and/or C-pillar trim(s) during service. As a result, the clip(s) attaching the trim to the pillar(s) may be damaged. If this happens, the side curtain airbags may not inflate properly in a crash. Safety Risk: An airbag that doesn't work properly could increase the risk of injury in a crash. Corrective Actions: Rivian will notify owners by email and advise you to take your vehicle to a Rivian service center to inspect and, if necessary, replace the upper B-pillar and/or C-pillar trim panel(s) with new ones.
Issue: On certain vehicles, the headlamps may not be aimed correctly. As a result, the vehicles may not meet certain requirements of Canadian regulations. Safety Risk: Headlamps that aren't properly aimed can reduce visibility and could increase the risk of a crash. Corrective Actions: Rivian will notify owners by mail and advise you to bring your vehicle to a Rivian service center to inspect and, if necessary, adjust the headlamps.
Issue: On certain vehicles, the daytime running lamps (DRLs) may not turn on if the multi-function switch is in the "PARKING" position. As a result, the vehicles may not meet certain requirements of Canadian regulations. Safety Risk: DRLs that don't turn on could reduce visibility and make the vehicle less visible to others. These issues could increase the risk of a crash. Corrective Actions: Rivian will notify owners by mail and send a wireless over-the-air software update to each vehicle. If you need assistance with this update, you should contact Rivian customer care or a Rivian service center. To reduce the safety risk, Rivian recommends using the "AUTO" lighting mode until the recall repairs have been completed.
Issue: On certain vehicles, the backup lamps may not be visible from some viewing angles. As a result, the backup lamps don't meet the requirements of Canadian regulations. Safety Risk: Backup lamps that aren't visible could cause a person not to recognize that the vehicle is backing and increase the risk of a crash. Corrective Actions: Rivian will notify owners by mail and instruct you to bring your vehicle to a Rivian service center to repair or replace the backup lamps.
