Summary

Issue: On certain vehicles, if the ignition switch is left in the "ON" position for too long, it could drain the battery. As a result, when the battery is recharged, and the vehicle is restarted, the airbag warning light will turn on and the airbags won't work in a crash. Safety Risk: Airbags that don't work properly could increase the risk of injury in a crash. Corrective Actions: Mazda will notify owners by mail and advise you to take your vehicle to a dealership to inspect and, as necessary, update the vehicle software or replace the airbag sensor unit.

Canadian regulations require the rearview image to display when the transmission is shifted into reverse gear. Note: This recall only affects vehicles equipped with a dynamic guideline rearview monitor and/or the 360-degree monitor. Safety Risk: A rearview camera image that does not display could reduce a driver's ability to see behind the vehicle while backing up. This could increase the risk of a crash. Corrective Actions: Mazda will notify owners by mail and advise you to take your vehicle to a dealership to update the view monitor control module software.

Summary

Issue: On certain vehicles, the front brake caliper mounting bolts may not be properly tightened. This could cause the bolts to loosen, which may result in reduced brake effectiveness. Safety Risk: Reduced brake effectiveness could cause an increase in stopping distance and create the risk of a crash. A loss of vehicle control could increase the risk of a crash. Corrective Actions: Mazda will notify owners by mail and instruct you to take your vehicle to a dealer to check the tightening torque of the front brake caliper mounting bolts. If a bolt is missing, the caliper and remaining bolt will be replaced.

Summary

Issue: On certain cars, the automatic emergency braking system (called Smart Brake Support or SBS) may falsely detect an obstacle in front of the car while driving. As a result, the brakes may apply automatically when there is no risk of a crash. Safety Risk: If the SBS system activates the brakes unexpectedly when there is no risk of a crash, there could be an increased risk of a rear-end crash. Corrective Actions: Mazda will notify owners by mail and instruct you to take your car to a dealer to update the SBS control software. On certain cars with earlier build dates, the instrument cluster will also be reprogrammed or replaced. Mazda will provide these owners with an updated owner's manual that provides revised information about how to temporarily deactivate the SBS system.
