Safety Recalls & Notices
Issue: On certain vehicles, the wheel hub nuts, outer tie rod nuts, front lower ball joint nuts, upper control link nuts and/or axle bracket bolts may not have been tightened properly. As a result, the fasteners could loosen and detach. If this happens, there could be a loss of power to the wheels, a loss of control and/or parts could separate from the vehicle. Note: This problem could cause unusual noises from the front of the vehicle when steering and/or driving over bumps. Safety Risk: A loss of power to the wheels and/or a loss of control could increase the risk of a crash. Additionally, parts that separate from the vehicle could create a road hazard for others and increase the risk of a crash. Corrective Actions: To reduce the safety risk, Mazda advises you to visually inspect the alignment of the front wheels before driving until the recall repairs have been completed. Mazda will notify owners by mail and advise you to take your vehicle to a dealership to inspect and tighten or replace the fasteners, as necessary.
Issue: On certain vehicles, an incorrect fuel level may be displayed on the instrument cluster. As a result, the driver may be unaware of how much fuel is in the tank, and the vehicle could run out of fuel and stall. Safety Risk: A sudden loss of engine power could increase the risk of a crash. Corrective Actions: To reduce the safety risk, Mazda advises that you should refuel before the fuel gauge reaches ¼ level until the recall repairs have been completed. Mazda will notify owners by mail and advise you to take your vehicle to a dealer to update the body control module software.
Issue: On certain vehicles, if the ignition switch is left in the "ON" position for too long, it could drain the battery. As a result, when the battery is recharged, and the vehicle is restarted, the airbag warning light will turn on and the airbags won't work in a crash. Safety Risk: Airbags that don't work properly could increase the risk of injury in a crash. Corrective Actions: Mazda will notify owners by mail and advise you to take your vehicle to a dealership to inspect and, as necessary, update the vehicle software or replace the airbag sensor unit.
Issue: Under certain conditions, a software problem in the dynamic stability control (DSC) unit could cause the traction control system (TCS) / DSC indicator light not to turn on. As a result, the vehicles may not meet certain requirements of Canadian regulations. Safety Risk: An indicator that doesn't turn on could cause you not to be aware of a problem with the TCS/DSC system. This could increase the risk of a crash. Corrective Actions: Mazda will notify owners by mail and advise you to take your vehicle to a dealership to replace the DSC unit with an improved part.
Issue: On certain vehicles, a problem with the inverter software could cause the vehicle to enter a fail-safe mode. If this happens, there could be a loss of power to the wheels. Safety Risk: A sudden loss of power to the wheels could increase the risk of a crash. Corrective Actions: Mazda will notify owners by mail and advise you to take your vehicle to a dealership to update the inverter software.
Issue: On certain vehicles, there could be a software problem with the dash electrical supply unit. As a result, the windshield defroster, the seat belt reminder sound and tell-tale, the 360-degree view monitor and high-voltage battery cooling system may not work properly. Safety Risk: A windshield defroster and/or a 360-degree view monitor that doesn't work could cause reduced visibility and increase the risk of a crash. A seat belt warning that doesn't work correctly may not remind you and/or passengers to buckle your seat belt. Not wearing your seat belt can increase the risk of injury in a crash. Corrective Actions: Mazda will notify owners by mail and advise you to take your vehicle to a dealership to update the dash electrical supply unit software.
Issue: On certain vehicles, software problems with the powertrain control module (PCM) and battery energy control module (BECM) could cause the engine not to restart after a start-stop (i-stop) event. Safety Risk: A vehicle that doesn't restart after a start-stop event could increase the risk of a crash. Corrective Actions: Mazda will notify owners by mail and advise you to take your vehicle to a dealership to update the PCM and BECM software.
Issue: On certain vehicles, software problems with the powertrain control module (PCM) and engine control module (ECM) could cause the vehicle to enter a fail-safe mode. If this happens, there could be a loss of power to the wheels. Safety Risk: A sudden loss of power to the wheels could increase the risk of a crash. Corrective Actions: Mazda will notify owners by mail and advise you to take your vehicle to a dealership to update the PCM and ECM software.
Issue: On certain vehicles, a software problem could cause the driver-front and passenger-front airbags to deploy with too much force in certain crashes. Safety Risk: An airbag that inflates with too much force could create an increased risk of injury in a crash. Corrective Actions: Mazda will notify owners by mail and advise you to take your vehicle to a dealership to update the airbag control module software.
Issue: On certain vehicles, a software problem could cause the Automatic Emergency Braking system (AEB) to falsely detect an obstacle and activate when it is not needed. If this happens, the system will stop or slow the vehicle down suddenly. Safety Risk: If the AEB system activates with braking when no potential collision is present, it could increase the risk of a crash. Corrective Actions: Mazda will notify owners by mail and advise you to take your vehicle to a dealership to update the vehicle control module software.
