Issue: On certain vehicles, one or more bolts that secure electrical connections in the high voltage battery may be missing a washer. As a result, the bus bar could loosen and cause electrical arcing (sparks) and/or a loss of power to the wheels. Note: This recall also affects certain incomplete vehicles. Safety Risk: Electrical arcing can create the risk of a fire. A loss of power to the wheels could increase the risk of a crash. Corrective Actions: Ford will notify owners by mail and advise you to take your vehicle to a dealership to inspect the bus bar for missing washers. If any washers are missing, the bus bar will be replaced.
Issue: On certain vehicles, the left-rear axle shaft may not have been installed properly. As a result, the axle shaft splines could wear. If this happens, there could be a loss of power to the wheels. Additionally, if the vehicle is parked and the parking brake isn't applied, the vehicle could roll away. Note: This recall also affects certain incomplete vehicles. Safety Risk: A loss of power to the wheels could increase the risk of a crash. A parked vehicle that rolls away could create the risk of an injury or a crash. Corrective Actions: Ford will notify owners by mail and advise you to take your vehicle to a dealership to inspect and, if necessary, replace the left-rear axle shaft. If the axle shaft requires replacement, the dealer will also inspect and, as necessary, replace primary drive unit components.
Issue: On certain chassis cab vehicles, water could enter the high-voltage battery and cause a short circuit. Note: This recall only affects certain E-Transit chassis cab vehicles with extended range batteries. Safety Risk: A short circuit in the high-voltage battery can create a fire risk, even while the vehicle is parked and turned off. Corrective Actions: To reduce the safety risk, Ford advises that you should park your vehicle outdoors and away from other vehicles or structures until the recall repairs have been completed. Ford will notify owners by mail and advise you to take your vehicle to a dealership to inspect and, if necessary, replace the high-voltage battery. If no damage is found, the dealer will add drainage holes to the side rails of the high-voltage battery tray.
