Issue: On certain vehicles, the flexible steel cable that attaches the seat belt to the outside of the front seats may weaken over time. As a result, the seat belt could detach. Safety Risk: A seat belt that detaches in a crash could create an increased risk of injury. Corrective Action: Volvo will notify owners by mail and instruct you to take your vehicle to a dealer to replace the front-outboard seat belt anchors.
Summary
On certain vehicles, there is a possibility of overheating issues of batteries in the Garmin nüvi® 760 when certain batteries manufactured within a limited date code range are used in certain Garmin nüvi® 760 models with a specific printed circuit board (PCB) design. The interaction of these factors can, in some circumstances, increase the possibility of overheating, which may lead to a fire. Correction: Dealers will direct customers who have an affected unit to the Garmin Web site, which explains how to verify if their units are involved and includes procedures to follow for product exchange.
Summary
On certain vehicles, the engine cooling fan may stop working due to a software programming error in the Fan Control Module (FCM). Depending on conditions, the driver may experience reduced air conditioning performance and/or rapid increase in engine coolant temperature. This could result in a loss of cooling system function and engine break down. The driver may not have sufficient time to react to the warning light(s) or the text message in the instrument panel, increasing the risk of a crash causing personal injury or death. Correction: Dealers will replace the Fan Control Module.

On certain vehicles, the diagnostic software in the Central Electronic Module (CEM) may cause a malfunction of the windshield wiper functionality. If this occurs, the windshield wipers may not operate when activated; or in certain cases the windshield wipers may activate when not switched on. Should this occur during a rainy/snowy day, it could increase the risk of a crash, causing property damage, personal injury or death. Correction: Dealers will install updated CEM software.
Summary
Certain vehicles fail to conform to the requirements of CMVSS 120 - Tire Selection and Rims. The wheel information label, located on the rear driver's side door pillar, does not contain the wheel size (rim) information. Correction: Owners will be provided with labels and installation instructions.

On certain vehicles, incorrect software was programmed into the Safety Restraint System (SRS) control module. As a result, the inflatable curtain and side impact airbag may not deploy as intended. A late activation of the Side Impact Protection System (SIPS) can result in an increased risk of injury to an occupant during a crash. The incorrect SRS module software may also cause the SRS warning lamp to illuminate and the message "SRS Airbag - Service Urgent" to be displayed. Correction: Dealers will update the SRS control module software.

VOLVO IS RECALLING CERTAIN VEHICLES EQUIPPED WITH GARMIN 760 PORTABLE GLOBAL POSITIONING SYSTEM (GPS) UNITS BECAUSE THE BATTERIES ON THOSE UNITS MAY OVERHEAT.
Potential Consequence
AN OVERHEATED BATTERY COULD LEAD TO A FIRE.
Remedy
VOLVO ADVISES OWNERS TO PLEASE STOP USING THE GARMIN PORTABLE GPS DEVICE IMMEDIATELY, AND VISIT THE GARMIN WEBSITE TO DETERMINE IF THEIR UNIT IS AFFECTED. THE UNIT'S BATTERY WILL BE REPLACED WITH A NEW BATTERY AND A SPACER WILL BE INSERTED ON TOP OF THE BATTERY NEXT TO THE PCB. THIS SERVICE WILL BE PERFORMED FREE OF CHARGE.
