On certain vehicles, a defect in the ignition switch could cause an electrical short to develop over time. This could result in smoke and/or fire, increasing the risk of injury and/or damage to property. Correction: Dealers will replace the ignition switch.
THE (Takata) ABS PLASTIC FRONT SEAT BELT RELEASE BUTTONS ON THESE VEHICLES MAY BREAK ALLOWING PLASTIC PIECES TO FALL INTO THE BUCKLE ASSEMBLY. IF THIS SHOULD HAPPEN, A NO LATCH, FALSE LATCH OR FAILURE TO UNLATCH CONDITION COULD OCCUR CREATING THE RISK OF PERSONAL INJURY IN THE EVENT OF A CRASH OR SUDDEN STOP. CORRECTION: FRONT SEAT BELT BUCKLES WILL BE REPAIRED OR REPLACED AS NECESSARY.
OVER A PERIOD OF TIME THE REAR BRAKES ON THESE VEHICLES MAY BECOME MORE AGGRESSIVE ON BRAKE APPLICATION AT LOW SPEED. THIS COULD RESULT IN REAR WHEEL LOCK UP AND POSSIBLE LOSS OF VEHICLE CONTROL. CORRECTION: BRAKE SHOE ASSEMBLIES WILL BE REPLACED WITH IMPROVED PARTS. NOTE: ONLY VEHICLES WITHOUT ABS AFFECTED.
CONTAMINATION OF THE VACUUM BRAKE HOSE CHECK VALVE BY DETERGENT USED IN MANUFACTURE, COULD CAUSE THE VALVE TO STICK AT LOW AMBIENT TEMPERATURES THEREBY PREVENTING ITS OPERATION. RESIDUAL VACUUM IN THE POWER BRAKE SYSTEM WOULD PROVIDE POWER ASSIST TO THE BRAKES ON INITIAL APPLICATION, BUT THE STICKING VALVE WOULD PREVENT VACUUM BUILD-UP TO PROVIDE CONTINUED POWER ASSIST. THIS COULD RESULT IN INCREASED STOPPING DISTANCES AND A POSSIBLE VEHICLE CRASH. CORRECTION: VACUUM BRAKE HOSE AND CHECK VALVE ASSEMBLY WILL BE REPLACED ON AFFECTED VEHICLES.
THESE VEHICLES DO NOT COMPLY WITH C.M.V.S.S 209 - SEAT BELT ASSEMBLIES. THE CENTRE SEAT BELT ATTACHMENT HARDWARE BRACKETS FOR THE THIRD SEAT MAY NOT WITHSTAND THE REQUIRED TENSILE LOAD OF 6000 LBS OR 26.7 KN. CORRECTION: CENTRE SEAT BELT ASSEMBLY WITH BRACKET WILL BE REPLACED ON AFFECTED VEHICLES.
Mazda North American Operations (Mazda) is recalling certain model year 1989-1998 MPV, 1990-1995 323, 1990-1998 Protege, 1992-1993 MX-3, 1993-1995 929, 1993-1997 MX-6, and 1993-1998 626 vehicles. In the affected vehicles, grease applied to the contact points inside the ignition switch may become conductive and overheat.
If the ignition switch overheats there would be an increased risk of a fire.
Mazda will notify owners, and dealers will replace the ignition switch, free of charge. The recall began on December 17, 2015. Owners may contact Mazda Customer Experience Center at 1-800-222-5500, option#6. Mazda's number for this recall is 8715J.
THE FRONT SAFETY BELT BUCKLE RELEASE BUTTONS CAN BREAK. THESE RED PLASTIC RELEASE BUTTONS ARE MARKED "PRESS." IF A BUTTON BREAKS, PIECES CAN FALL INTO THE BUCKLE ASSEMBLY CAUSING THE BUCKLE TO OPERATE IMPROPERLY.
THE SAFETY BELTS WOULD NOT PROVIDE ADEQUATE PROTECTION TO AN OCCUPANT IN A VEHICLE CRASH.
OWNERS SHOULD PROMPTLY CHECK THE CONDITION AND OPERATION OF BOTH FRONT SAFETY BELT BUCKLES AND CAREFULLY INSPECT THE RED RELEASE BUTTON FOR ANY BREAKS OR CRACKS. THEY SHOULD ENSURE THAT BOTH BUCKLES ARE OPERATING PROPERLY BY INSERTING EACH LATCH PLATE INTO ITS BUCKLE, TUGGING ON THE BELT TO MAKE SURE THE LATCH IS SECURELY LOCKED, AND THEN PRESSING THE RELEASE BUTTON. THE LATCH PLATE SHOULD POP OUT OF THE BUCKLE WHEN THE BUTTON IS PRESSED. IF EITHER RELEASE BUTTON SHOWS A SIGN OF BREAKING OR CRACKING OR IF EITHER BUCKLE FAILS TO OPERATE PROPERLY, OWNERS SHOULD PROMPTLY CONTACT THEIR AUTHORIZED DEALER TO SCHEDULE AN APPOINTMENT TO HAVE THE BUCKLE REPLACED OR REPAIRED, FREE OF CHARGE. THE MANUFACTURER IS DEVELOPING A REMEDY DESIGNED TO PREVENT FAILURE OF THE BUTTONS THAT ARE NOT CURRENTLY BROKEN.
WHEN APPLYING THE FOOT (SERVICE) BRAKE IN THE LOW VEHICLE SPEED CONDITION, THE BRAKING POWER PRODUCED MAY BE MORE THAN EXPECTED.
THE UNEXPECTED BRAKING POWER COULD RESULT IN REAR BRAKELOCKUP AND THE VEHICLE BECOMING DIFFICULT TO CONTROL.
REPLACE BRAKE SHOE ASSEMBLY WITH IMPROVED ASSEMBLY.
WHEN THE VEHICLE IS EXPOSED TO TEMPERATURES BELOW 5 DEGREES FAHRENHEIT (-15 DEGREES C), THE NEUTRAL DETERGENT USED AS AN ASSEMBLY LUBRICANT MAY STICK TO THE CHECK VALVE, PREVENTING VALVE FROM FUNCTIONING.
THIS COULD CAUSE AN INOPERATIVE BRAKE POWER ASSIST WHICHDESCREASES BRAKING ABILITY, AND PRESENTS A POTENTIAL FOR AN ACCIDENT.
REPLACE VACUUM HOSE ASSEMBLY.
THE CENTER SAFETY BELT ATTACHMENT HARDWARE BRACKETS FOR THE THIRD SEAT MAY NOT WITHSTAND THE SPECIFIED TENSILE LOAD.
