UNDER CERTAIN CONDITIONS, THE PARKING PAWL MAY NOT ENGAGE THE PARKING GEAR WHEN THE GEAR SELECTOR IS MOVED TOWARD PARK LEAVING THE VEHICLE FREE TO ROLL IF LEFT ON A GRADE WITHOUT THE PARKING BRAKE ENGAGED. ALSO, ABNORMALLY SLOW MOVEMENT OF THE SELECTOR LEVER FROM REVERSE TO NEUTRAL MAY NOT DISENGAGE THE REVERSE GEAR IN THE TRANSMISSION. VEHICLES AFFECTED: PASSENGER CARS WITH 2.4L DIESEL ENGINES AND ZF AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSIONS.
THE UPPER TORSO RESTRAINT D-RING WHICH ATTACHES THE SHOULDER BELT TO THE B PILLAR, UNDER CERTAIN TEST CONDITIONS, SEPARATED FROM ITS ANCHORAGE, AND MAY NOT COMPLY WITH CMVSS 210 - BELT ANCHORAGE.
IF THE SELECTOR IS GENTLY OR SLOWLY MOVED TOWARDS PARK, THE TRANSMISSION MAY NOT CHANGE TO PARKING GEAR. SIMILARLY, SLOW MOVEMENT OF THE SELECTOR FROM REVERSE TO NEUTRAL MAY NOT REMOVE THE TRANSMISSION FROM REVERSE GEAR.
DEALER WILL REPLACE RUBBER-ISOLATED SHIFT ROD WITH A CONVENTIONAL ONE-PIECE ROD AND WILL READJUST THE SHIFT LINKAGE.
THE BOLTS THAT ATTACH THE D-SHAPED RING FOR THE SHOULDER BELT ARE INADEQUATELY SUPPORTED BY THE MATERIAL IN WHICH THEY ARE MOUNTED. THE ATTACHMENT DOES NOT COMPLY WITH THE REQUIREMENTS OF FEDERAL MOTOR VEHICLE SAFETY STANDARD NO. 210, "SEAT BELT ASSEMBLY ANCHORAGES".
DEALERS WILL INSTALL NEW ATTACHING HARDWARE TO IMPROVE THE STRENGTH OF THE MOUNTING.
