PICKUP TRUCKS WITH OPTIONAL SIDE-MOUNTED TIRE CARRIERS. THE REINFORCEMENT FOR THE IN-BOX SPARE TIRE CARRIER MAY HAVE BEEN ATTACHED USING INCORRECT HEX HEAD BOLTS. UNDER CERTAIN CONDITIONS THE OUTER SIDEWALL OF THE SPARE TIRE MAY CONTACT THE SHARP EDGE OF THE BOLT AND POSSIBLY RESULT IN THE ABRASION OF THE SIDEWALL. SUCH ABRASION COULD CAUSE WEAKENING OF THE TIRE SIDEWALL AND WHEN THE SPARE TIRE IS USED AS A REPLACEMENT, IT COULD FAIL WITH SUDDEN LOSS OF AIR PRESSURE AND MIGHT RESULT IN LOSS OF VEHICLE CONTROL.
FOUR-WHEEL DRIVE LIGHT TRUCKS. THE NUT HOLDING THE FRONT AND REAR DRIVE SHAFT YOKE TO THE BORG-WARNER TRANSFER CASE MAY LOSE RETAINING TORQUE. WHEN THIS OCCURS, THE NUT BECOMES LOOSE AND MAY BACK OFF THE OUTPUT SHAFT THUS ALLOOWING POSSIBLE DRIVE SHAFT DISENGAGEMENT.
TWO-WHEEL DRIVE, 133 INCH WHEELBASE LIGHT TRUCKS. THE UNSHIELDED FUEL TANK MAY BE DAMAGED BY THE CENTRE UNIVERSAL JOINT OF THE TWO-PIECE DRIVESHAFT WHEN THE VEHICLE IS TESTED IN A 30 MILE PER HOUR, 30 DEGREE LEFT FRONT ANGULAR FIXED BARRIER IMPACT. THESE VEHICLES MAY NOT MEET THE FUEL SPILLAGE REQUIREMENTS OF CANADA MOTOR VEHICLE SAFETY STANDARD 301 - FUEL SYSTEM INTEGRITY.
SUPERCAB VEHICLES MAY HAVE BEEN BUILT WITHOUT A MIDSHIP FUEL TANK SHIELD. DURING A 30 M.P.H. FRONTAL BARRIER IMPACT AS DESCRIBED IN CANADA MOTOR VEHICLE SAFETY STANDARD 301 - FUEL SYSTEM INTEGRITY THE MIDSHIP FUEL TANK ON FOUR WHEEL DRIVE VEHICLES MAY CONTACT THE TRANSFER CASE AND/OR THE DRIVESHAFT UNIVERSAL JOINT AND THE MIDSHIP FUEL TANK ON TWO WHEEL DRIVE VEHICLES MAY CONTACT THE DRIVESHAFT UNIVERSAL JOINT. BOTH CONDITIONS MAY RESULT IN FUEL SPILLAGE WITH THE POTENTIAL FOR A VEHICLE FIRE.
VEHICLES PRODUCED AT THE KANSAS CITY ASSEMBLY PLANT. VEHICLES MAY HAVE BEEN PRODUCED WITH A MISSING OR IMPROPERLY TORQUED PINCH BOLT AND NUT USED TO ATTACH THE INTERMEDIATE STEERING SHAFT TO THE STEERING COLUMN. IF THE PINCH BOLT IS MISSING OR HAS DISENGAGED, THE INTERMEDIATE STEERING SHAFT COULD SLIP RELATIVE TO THE STEERING COLUMN AND EVENTUALLY SEPARATE FROM THE COLUMN RESULTING IN A LOSS OF STEERING CONTROL.
SUPERCAB VEHICLES PRODUCED AT THE KANSAS CITY ASSEMBLY PLANT. VEHICLES MAY HAVE BEEN PRODUCED WITHOUT THE SPECIFIED EXHAUST SYSTEM HEAT SHIELDS. UNDER CERTAIN CONDITIONS, ABSENCE OF THESE HEAT SHIELDS COULD RESULT IN HIGH FLOOR PAN TEMPERATURES POSSIBLY CAUSING THE FLOOR COVERING MATERIAL TO SMOLDER.
