Issue: On certain vehicles, a software problem could cause the rearview camera image not to display when the transmission is shifted into reverse. Canadian regulations require the rearview image to display when the vehicle is reversing. Safety Risk: A rearview camera image that doesn't display could reduce a driver's ability to see behind the vehicle while backing up. This could increase the risk of a crash. Corrective Actions: Ford will notify owners by mail and advise you to take your vehicle to a dealership to update the SYNC software.
Issue: On a small number of vehicles, the recall repairs completed by a Ford dealer during recall 20S20 (Transport Canada recall no. 2020-202) may not have been done correctly. As a result, a second repair is required. On certain vehicles, the pre-collision assist system was not programmed correctly. As a result, the forward collision warning, dynamic brake support, and automatic emergency braking features will not work. Note: This recall only affects vehicles with Ford Co-Pilot360, not those with the optional Ford Co-Pilot360 Assist technology. Safety Risk: If the pre-collision assist system doesn't work properly, it may not detect a frontal crash or reduce its severity. This could create an increased risk of injury. Corrective Actions: Ford will notify owners by mail and advise you to take your vehicle to a dealership to update the vehicle software.
Issue: On certain vehicles, there could be a problem with the driver and/or front passenger seatbelt pretensioner(s). As a result, the airbag warning light could turn on, and the seatbelt pretensioners could deploy without a crash. Note: This recall is an expansion Transport Canada recall no. 2024-084. Certain vehicles repaired under that recall also require this repair. Safety Risk: Seat belt pretensioners that don't work properly could create an increased risk of injury. Additionally, seat belt pretensioners that deploy without a crash could startle the driver and increase the risk of a crash. Corrective Actions: Ford will notify owners by mail and advise you to take your vehicle to a dealership to inspect and, if necessary, replace the driver and/or front passenger seatbelt retractor(s).
Issue: On certain vehicles, the owner's manual doesn't include instructions for how to remove or adjust the head restraint for the centre seating positions. Canadian regulations require this information be included in the owner's manual. Safety Risk: Missing instructions for how to remove or adjust head restraints could increase the risk of injury in a crash. Corrective Actions: Ford will notify owners by mail and provide you with an owner's manual insert with instructions for how to remove and adjust the centre seat head restraints.
Issue: Certain vehicles could catch fire in the engine compartment, even while parked with the ignition off. The exact cause of the fire risk is under investigation. Safety Risk: The vehicle could catch fire, even while parked and turned off. Corrective Actions: Ford will notify owners by mail and advise that you should park your vehicle outdoors and away from other vehicles or structures until the recall repairs have been completed. The corrective actions for this recall are under development.
Issue: On certain trucks, the windshield wiper arms may not have been manufactured correctly. As a result, the wiper arms could slip and they may not wipe the windshield properly. Safety Risk: Windshield wipers that do not work properly could affect a driver's visibility. This could increase the risk of a crash. Corrective Actions: Ford will notify owners by mail and instruct you to take your vehicle to a dealership to replace the windshield wiper arms.
Issue: On certain vehicles, an electrical problem with the rearview camera could cause it not to work properly. As a result, the rearview image may be distorted or not display at all. Safety Risk: A rearview camera image that does not display could reduce a driver's ability to see behind the vehicle while backing up. This could increase the risk of a crash. Corrective Actions: Ford will notify owners by mail and instruct you to take your vehicle to a dealer to replace the rearview camera.
Issue: On certain vehicles, the bracket that attaches the head restraint to the second-row left seat may not have been fully welded. As a result, the head restraint could move in a crash. Safety Risk: A head restraint that does not remain in place in a crash could create a increase the risk of injury. Corrective Actions: Ford will notify owners by mail and instruct you to take your vehicle to a Ford or Lincoln dealer to inspect and replace the second-row seat structure, if necessary.
Issue: On certain vehicles, the Pre-Collision Assist System was not programmed correctly. A seatback with reduced strength may not properly restrain an occupant in a crash. Safety Risk: A seatback that moves in a crash could increase the risk of injury. Corrective Actions: Ford will notify owners by mail and instruct them to take their vehicle to a Ford or Lincoln dealer for an inspection of the driver and front passenger seat recliners. For 2020 model year Explorer and Aviator, dealers will inspect the rear outboard seats. The seat structures will be replaced as required.
