On certain vehicles, water contamination of the automatic transmission oil can lead to various failure modes of the transmission. One of these failure modes results in incorrect operation of the park lock function that could allow a vehicle to roll away if parked without the handbrake properly set. Correction: Dealers will check the park lock function; reposition the automatic transmission breather tube; and test the automatic transmission fluid and flush if necessary.

United States records (NHTSA) · 5
These are NHTSA campaigns for 1999 Land Rover Range Rover vehicles sold in the United States. They are not Canadian recalls: NHTSA's VIN lookup has no Canadian data, and a US campaign may have no Canadian counterpart, or one under a different number covering different vehicles. For a vehicle sold in Canada, go by the Transport Canada listing above and Land Rover's Canadian VIN lookup.
VEHICLE DESCRIPTION: CERTAIN SPORT UTILITY VEHICLES FAIL TO COMPLY WITH THE REQUIREMENTS OF FMVSS NO. 114, "THEFT PROTECTION." WATER CONTAMINATION OF THE AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION OIL CAN LEAD TO VARIOUS FAILURE MODES OF THE TRANSMISSION. ONE OF THESE FAILURE MODELS RESULTS IN INCORRECT OPERATION OF THE PARK LOCK FUNCTION THAT COULD ALLOW A VEHICLE TO ROLL AWAY IF PARKED WITHOUT THE HANDBRAKE PROPERLY SET.
UNINTENTIONAL VEHICLE MOVEMENT COULD RESULT IN A CRASH OR PERSONAL INJURY.
DEALERS WILL CHECK THE PARK LOCK FUNCTION; REPOSITION THE AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION BREATHER TUBE; AND TEST THE AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION FLUID AND FLUSH IF NECESSARY.

VEHICLE DESCRIPTION: SPORT UTILITY VEHICLES. THE CAST ALLOY THROTTLE BODY IS HEATED BY FLUID BLED FROM THE COOLING SYSTEM, TO PREVENT ICING IN EXTREMELY COLD WEATHER CONDITIONS. THIS FLUID PASSES THROUGH A SMALL ATTACHMENT (PLATE) TO THE THROTTLE BODY, WHICH UTILIZES A CORK GASKET. THE CORK GASKET HAS PROVEN TO BE UNRELIABLE IN THIS APPLICATION. CONSEQUENTLY, COOLANT FLUID CAN LEAK FROM THE INTERFACE BETWEEN THE DE-ICER PLATE AND THE THROTTLE BODY.
SHOULD THIS COOLANT COLLECT ON HIGH TEMPERATURE REGIONS OF THE ENGINE, THE COOLANT FLUID COULD IGNITE.
DEALERS WILL REPLACE THE THROTTLE BODY GASKET, DE-ICER ATTACHMENT, AND SECURING HARDWARE.

VEHICLE DESCRIPTION: SPORT UTILITY VEHICLES. COOLANT SYSTEM LEAKS HAVE BEEN IDENTIFIED IN AREAS WHERE THE COOLANT COULD BE SUBJECTED TO ELEVATED TEMPERATURES.
CONSEQUENTLY, THE FLUID COULD IGNITE CAUSING AN UNDER-HOOD FIRE.
DEALERS WILL MAKE A SERIES OF MODIFICATIONS TO SEVERAL UNDERHOOD HOSE COMPONENTS TO ELIMINATE THE RELEASE OF ENGINE COOLANT.

VEHICLE DESCRIPTION: SPORT UTILITY VEHICLES. THE LOADING CONDITIONS ON THE VEHICLE'S LEFT SIDE ENGINE IDLER PULLEY CAN EXCEED THE MAXIMUM CALCULATED FIGURE OF THE ORIGINAL DESIGN SPECIFICATION. THE MATERIAL OF THE PULLEY CAN FRACTURE AND ULTIMATELY FAIL. FAILURE OF THE PULLEY MATERIAL CAN CAUSE THE PULLEY TO THROW OFF THE SERPENTINE BELT.
THIS COULD RESULT IN A LOSS OF ENGINE AUXILIARY FUNCTIONS (POWER STEERING, WATER PUMP, ALTERNATOR, AIR CONDITIONING AND ACE).
DEALERS WILL INSTALL AN IMPROVED IDLER PULLEY.

VEHICLE DESCRIPTION: SPORT UTILITY VEHICLES. AS A RESULT OF WATER INGRESS AND SUBSEQUENT ICE BLOCKAGE, THE TRANSMISSION BREATHER TUBE CAN BECOME CLOGGED, EXPELLING TRANSMISSION FLUID FROM THE DIPSTICK TUBE ONTO HOT ENGINE COMPONENTS.
THIS LEAKAGE, IN THE PRESENCE OF AN IGNITION SOURCE, CAN RESULT IN AN UNDERHOOD FIRE.
DEALERS WILL REMOVE THE TRANSMISSION BREATHER TUBE FROM THE INNER FENDER AND A SECTION OF THE HOSE WILL BE CUT AT AN ANGLE. THIS ACTION WILL REMOVE THE END OF THE BREATHER TUBE FROM ANY POOLED WATER AND WILL ELIMINATE WATER DROPLETS FROM CLINGING TO THE END OF THE TUBE.

1999 Land Rover Range Rover recall questions
Transport Canada lists 4 recalls for the 1999 Land Rover Range Rover model year. That counts campaigns naming this model year, not recalls on your vehicle: many cover only a VIN range or production window, and some only vehicles found on inspection. NHTSA lists 5 United States campaigns for the US-market model, shown separately; a US campaign may have no Canadian equivalent.
Enter your VIN in Land Rover's Canadian recall lookup, or call a Land Rover dealer with your VIN. In Canada the manufacturer is responsible for showing recall and repair status for each VIN, so its lookup is the authoritative answer. Cardog uses your VIN only to find the model year; the recalls shown here are listed for that model year and are not matched to your VIN.
Not necessarily. NHTSA campaigns cover vehicles sold in the United States, and NHTSA's VIN lookup has no Canadian data. When a defect also affects Canadian vehicles, the manufacturer files a separate notice with Transport Canada, often under a different number and sometimes covering a different set of vehicles. For a Canadian vehicle, go by the Transport Canada listing and Land Rover's Canadian lookup.
Safety recall repairs are normally done at no charge by an authorized Land Rover dealer. The manufacturer's notice for each campaign sets out the remedy and any conditions, so confirm with the dealer when you book.
Once Land Rover's lookup or a dealer confirms a recall applies, book the repair with an authorized Land Rover dealer and bring your VIN. If the manufacturer's notice says not to drive the vehicle or to park it outside, follow that instruction. Parts can take time, so book early.
Follow the manufacturer's notice for that recall. Most allow normal driving until the repair; some tell owners to stop driving or to park outside until it is fixed. Cardog does not grade recalls by severity: the manufacturer's notice and your dealer are the source.
Manufacturers must notify owners they have on record. If you bought the vehicle used or have moved, update your details with Land Rover Canada so notices reach you, and check the manufacturer's lookup from time to time.
