Chrysler Canada has determined that an opportunity to incrementally improve performance in certain types of low-speed impacts may exist in certain vehicles. The company will carry out a voluntary customer satisfaction campaign to offer a structural improvement to mitigate the risks of fuel leakage in certain low-speed collisions. Chrysler will inspect the affected vehicles and install a Chrysler trailer hitch if appropriate. This action is not being conducted under the requirements of the Motor Vehicle Safety Act.
Chrysler Group LLC (Chrysler) is recalling certain model year 1993-1998 Jeep Grand Cherokee and 2002-2007 Jeep Liberty vehicles. The fuel tanks in these vehicles are at risk of failure and leakage in certain rear impacts.
A fuel leak in the presence of an ignition source may result in a fire.
Owners may take their vehicles to dealers and the dealers will perform a free inspection of the rear structure. On vehicles in the recall that are not equipped with a tow hitch, Chrysler will install a Chrysler designed tow hitch free of charge, provided the condition of the vehicle can support proper installation. On vehicles in the recall that are equipped with an aftermarket tow hitch, Chrysler will assess whether the hitch and surrounding areas show evidence of sharp edges or other puncture risks. If so, Chrysler will replace the tow hitch with a Chrysler designed tow hitch free of charge, provided the condition of the vehicle can support proper installation. On vehicles already equipped with a Chrysler designed tow hitch, Chrysler will inspect the area around the tow hitch installation, and if any installation issues are identified, they will be repaired free of charge. As a Customer Satisfaction Campaign DaimlerChrysler has initiated the following action: With certain Grand Cherokees, if a driver has not placed the shifter lever fully into the "park" position and leaves the vehicle running, the vehicle may unexpectedly move rearward after seeming to be stable. Inadvertent movement of the vehicle could result in a crash. Correction: Dealers will install a secondary detent system to the floor shifter assembly.
ON CERTAIN SPORT UTILITY VEHICLES, IF A DRIVER HAS NOT PLACED THE SHIFTER LEVER FULLY INTO THE "PARK" POSITION AND LEAVES THE VEHICLE RUNNING, THE VEHICLE MAY UNEXPECTEDLY MOVE REARWARD AFTER SEEMING TO BE STABLE.
INADVERTENT MOVEMENT OF THE VEHICLE COULD RESULT IN A CRASH.

THE PLASTIC RETAINING PINS IN THE COLLAPSIBLE STEERING COLUMN SHAFT WERE SHEARED PRIOR TO INSTALLATION OF THE COLUMN INTO THE VEHICLE. THIS COULD CAUSE THE UPPER STEERING COLUMN SHAFT TO SEPARATE FROM THE LOWER COLUMN SHAFT, WHICH COULD RESULT IN A LOSS OF STEERING CONTROL. CORRECTION: A RESTRAINING SLEEVE WILL BE ADDED TO THE INTERMEDIATE SHAFT TO LIMIT THE AMOUNT OF STEERING COLUMN SHAFT MOVEMENT.
THE MOLDED PLASTIC PIN WHICH CONNECTS THE UPPER STEERING COLUMN SHAFT AND THE LOWER COLUMN SHAFT MAY HAVE BEEN SHEARED PRIOR TO INSTALLATION OF THE STEERING COLUMN ASSEMBLY INTO THE VEHICLE. IF THIS OCCURRED, THE UPPER STEERING SHAFT WILL SEPARATE FROM THE LOWER STEERING SHAFT.
IF THE UPPER AND LOWER STEERING SHAFTS SEPARATE, COMPLETELOSS OF STEERING CONTROL WILL OCCUR, WHICH COULD RESULT IN AN ACCIDENT.
A RESTRAINING SLEEVE WILL BE ADDED TO THE INTERMEDIATE SHAFT TO LIMIT THE AMOUNT OF STEERING SHAFT MOVEMENT AVAILABLE.
THE LIFTGATE MAY BECOME DIFFICULT TO UNLATCH OR MAY NOT LATCH WHEN SHUT DUE TO AN INTERNAL RUBBER BUMPER INTERFERING WITH THE MOVEMENT OF THE LATCH PAWL. IF THE LIFTGATE DOES NOT LATCH PROPERLY WHEN CLOSED, THE LIFTGATE MAY OPEN WITHOUT WARNING WHILE THE VEHICLE IS BEING DRIVEN. CORRECTION: LATCH WILL BE INSPECTED AND REPLACED IF REQUIRED.
GREASE APPLIED TO THE LIFTGATE LATCH RUBBER BUMPERS TO EASE COMPONENT ASSEMBLY CAUSED THE BUMPER TO SWELL, INTERFERING WITH THE MOVEMENT OF THE LIFTGATE LATCH PAWL. THIS PREVENTS THE LIFTGATE LATCHING WHEN CLOSED AND DIFFICULT TO OPEN WHEN LATCHED.
AN UNLATCHED LIFTGATE CAN OPEN WHILE THE VEHICLE IS INMOTION, AND COULD RESULT IN AN OCCUPANT FALLING OUT.
REPLACE THE LIFTGATE ASSEMBLY ON AFFECTED VEHICLES.
THE ECCENTRIC CAM ADJUSTER BOLTS IN BOTH FRONT LOWER SUSPENSION ARM-TO-FRONT AXLE BRACKET ATTACHMENTS MAY FAIL DUE TO ASSEMBLY MISALIGNMENT.
CAM BOLT FAILURES CAUSE THE VEHICLE TO PULL TO ONESIDE WHEN THE BRAKES ARE APPLIED, RESULTING IN A POSSIBLE LOSS OF VEHICLECONTROL AND AN ACCIDENT.
REPLACE THE FRONT SUSPENSION CAM BOLTS, CAM WASHERS, AND NUTS WITH COMPONENTS OF A DIFFERENT DESIGN.
THESE VEHICLES MAY CONTAIN FRONT SUSPENSION CAM BOLTS WHICH MAY FAIL DUE TO ASSEMBLY MISALIGNMENT WHICH COUULD CAUSE THE BOLT TO BEND AND POSSIBLY CRACK DURING INSTALLATION. FAILURE OF THE BOLT MAY CAUSE THE VEHICLE TO PULL TO ONE SIDE WHEN THE BRAKES ARE APPLIED. THIS COULD RESULT IN A VEHICLE CRASH WITHOUT PRIOR WARNING. CORRECTION: FRONT SUSPENSION CAM BOLTS, CAM WASHERS AND NUTS WILL BE REPLACED WITH COMPONENTS OF A DIFFERENT DESIGN.
THE RETAINER CLIP THAT SECURES THE MASTER CYLINDER INPUT ROD TO THE BRAKE PEDAL MAY NOT BE PROPERLY INSTALLED, POSSIBLY PREVENTING FULL CLIP ENGAGEMENT. THIS COULD RESULT IN THE INPUT ROD SEPARATING FROM THE BRAKE PEDAL WITH SUBSEQUENT LOSS OF SERVICE BRAKES. CORRECTION: VEHICLES WILL BE INSPECTED FOR PROPER CLIP INSTALLATION AND IMPROPERLY INSTALLED CLIPS WILL BE REPLACED.

IMPROPERLY INSTALLED RETAINER CLIPS WILL BE REMOVED AND NEW RETAINER CLIPS WILL BE PROPERLY INSTALLED.
