Powertrain

Dec 6, 2023Transport CanadaCampaign: 2023646

Summary

Issue: On certain vehicles, the integrated transmission control unit (ITCU) may not be sealed properly. As a result, transmission oil could leak into the unit and cause the transmission gears to seize. If this happens, there could be a loss of power to the wheels. Safety Risk: A loss of power to the wheels could increase the risk of a crash. Corrective Actions: BMW will notify owners by mail and advise you to take your vehicle to a dealership to replace the ITCU. The dealer will also inspect the transmission fluid and replace it, if necessary.

Structure

Summary

Issue: On certain vehicles, a software problem could allow you to close the windows and roof without the digital key inside the vehicle. Canadian regulations require a key to be in or near the vehicle when closing the windows or roof system. Safety Risk: A window or roof that can be closed without the digital key in or near the vehicle could create a risk of injury. Corrective Actions: BMW will notify owners by mail and instruct you to take your vehicle to a dealership to update the electronic control unit software. To reduce safety risk, BMW recommends that you shouldn't use the digital key, and that the vehicle should only be operated with the key fob until the recall repairs are completed.

Feb 1, 2023Transport CanadaCampaign: 2023033

Summary

Issue: On certain 2 Series Coupe models, the rear seat backrest cover panels could crack when a side airbag deploys. If this happens, the side airbag(s) may not inflate properly in a crash. Safety Risk: An airbag that does not work properly could create an increased risk of injury in a crash. Corrective Actions: BMW will notify owners by mail and instruct you to take your vehicle to a dealership to replace the rear seat backrest side airbag cover panels. To reduce the safety risk, BMW recommends that you should not transport any passengers in the rear seats until the recall repairs have been completed.
