On certain vehicles, the wiring under the front seats of vehicles equipped with power seats could be misrouted, allowing the wire to be pinched by metal seat components. As a result, electrical resistance will trip a circuit breaker diode in the fuse junction box. After the diode cools down, it will reset and recycle through this process repeatedly. It may be possible for the diode to continue to build up heat instead of cooling down, which may result in a fire in another component in the junction box area. Correction: Dealers will inspect to confirm the integrity of the power seat wiring. In addition, the dealer will install corrugated tubing around the underseat wires to eliminate the possibility of wire pinching.
On certain vehicles, the throttle cable could move out of position during vehicle acceleration. This can permit the throttle cable to be hung-up, which could result in a crash. Correction: Dealers will install a cable guide clip on the throttle body.
On certain vehicles, moisture can accumulate on the throttle cable. In freezing conditions, excessive moisture build-up can result in ice accumulation and resistance to movement. This can permit the throttle cable to be hung-up or to jump out of position, which could result in a crash. Correction: Dealers will replace the throttle cable.
ON CERTAIN MINI VANS, DURING ASSEMBLY, THE THROTTLE CABLE WOULD TWIST ITSELF OUT OF POSITION.
THIS CAN PERMIT THE CABLE TO BE HUNG UP, WHICH COULD RESULT IN A CRASH.
DEALERS WILL REPLACE THE THROTTLE CABLE FREE OF CHARGE. VEHICLES PRODUCED FROM MARCH 20, 2001 THROUGH NOVEMBER 7, 2001 WILL HAVE A GUIDE CLIP INSTALLED ON THE THROTTLE BODY ASSEMBLY IN ORDER TO ENSURE THAT THE TENSION FORCE CABLE DOES NOT MOVE OUT OF POSITION. VEHICLES MANUFACTURED BEGINNING ON NOVEMBER 8, 2001, ALREADY HAVE THE EXTENDED GUIDE, WHICH ACCOMPLISHES THE SAME OBJECTIVE. THE RECALL BEGAN MARCH 21, 2005. OWNERS MAY CONTACT KIA AT 1-800-333-4542.
On certain vehicles, the second and third row seat belt assemblies were secured with anchor bolts that do not comply with the strength requirements of CMVSS 209. In a severe impact, this could lead to anchor bolt breakage, resulting in failure of the seat belt assemblies to properly restrain passengers. Correction: Dealer will replace the seat belt anchor bolts.
On certain vehicles, some of the second and third row seat strikers installed on the vehicle floor pan have been improperly heat treated and could break in a crash. This could result in injuries to occupants of these seats. Correction: Dealer will replace the seat strikers.
ON CERTAIN PASSENGER VEHICLES, SOME OF THE SECOND AND THIRD ROW SEAT STRIKERS INSTALLED ON THE VEHICLE FLOOR PAN HAVE BEEN IMPROPERLY HEAT TREATED AND COULD BREAK IN A CRASH.
THIS COULD RESULT IN INJURIES TO OCCUPANTS OF THESE SEATS.
DEALERS WILL REPLACE THE SEAT STRIKERS. OWNER NOTIFICATION BEGAN APRIL 25, 2003. OWNERS WHO TAKE THEIR VEHICLES TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER ON AN AGREED UPON SERVICE DATE AND DO NOT RECEIVE THE FREE REMEDY WITHIN A REASONABLE TIME SHOULD CONTACT KIA AT 1-800-333-4542
CERTAIN MINI VANS FAIL TO COMPLY WITH THE REQUIREMENTS OF FEDERAL MOTOR VEHICLE SAFETY STANDARD NO. 209, "SEAT BELT ASSEMBLIES." THE SECOND AND THIRD SEAT BELT BUCKLE ANCHOR BOLTS DO NOT COMPLY WITH THE STANDARDS.
IN THE EVENT OF A VEHICLE CRASH, THE OCCUPANT MAY NOT BE PROPERLY RESTRAINED.
DEALERS WILL REPLACE THE SEAT BELT BUCKLE ANCHOR BOLTS. OWNER NOTIFICATION BEGAN FEBRUARY 24, 2003. OWNERS WHO TAKE THEIR VEHICLES TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER ON AN AGREED UPON SERVICE DATE AND DO NOT RECEIVE THE FREE REMEDY WITHIN A REASONABLE TIME SHOULD CONTACT KIA AT 1-800-333-4542.
