Summary
Issue: On certain Ioniq EV models, the vehicle could accelerate after the accelerator pedal is released. Note: This problem can only happen under certain conditions after the vehicle enters "fail-safe" mode. Safety Risk: A vehicle that continues to accelerate could create the risk of a crash. Corrective Actions: Hyundai will notify owners by mail and instruct you bring your vehicle to a dealer to update the electric power control unit (EPCU) software. The dealer will also add additional ground wiring between the drive motor/gear assembly and frame.
Summary
Issue: On certain electric vehicles, there could be a problem inside the high-voltage battery. As a result, the high-voltage battery could short circuit while the vehicle is parked, charging, or driving. Note: Vehicles that had a battery replacement after completion of Hyundai recall R0175 (Transport Canada Recall No. 2020-477) do not require repair under this recall. For the Hyundai Ioniq, only certain all-electric models are affected by this recall. Safety Risk: A short circuit in the battery could cause a fire. Corrective Actions: Hyundai will notify owners by mail and instruct you bring your vehicle to a dealer to lower the battery charging limit to 80% until the final repair is available. You will also be provided with instructions for how to do this yourself using the vehicle's infotainment system. Hyundai recommends that you should park your vehicle outdoors, and away from other vehicles or buildings until the battery charging limit is changed. The second step of this recall will be to replace the high-voltage battery (BSA). Summary
Issue: On certain cars, the wheel lug nuts were not properly tightened during assembly. This could cause the nuts to loosen or fall off, and could result in a wheel separating from the car. Note: For the Ioniq model, this recall only involves the Ioniq PHEV (Plug-In Hybrid Electric Vehicle) version. Safety Risk: A wheel separation could increase the risk of a crash. A wheel that detaches from a vehicle could create a hazard for other drivers and nearby people. Corrective Actions: The company will notify owners by mail and instruct them to take their car to a dealer to ensure the front and rear wheel nuts are properly tightened.
Summary
On certain Hybrid and Plug-In Hybrid (PHEV) vehicles, the main relay contacts in the Power Relay Assembly located underneath the rear seat may have an inadequate connection. This could increase electrical resistance and generate heat, increasing the risk of fire causing injury and/or damage to property. Correction: Dealers will inspect the Power Relay Assembly for signs of thermal damage. If no thermal damage is found, the main relay will be replaced. If signs of thermal damage exist, the Power Relay Assembly will be replaced. Note: This problem may cause the Illumination of the HEV warning light while driving and/or an inability to start the vehicle.
Summary
On certain vehicles, the hydraulic clutch actuator (HCA) was produced with burrs that could damage the inner oil seal. A damaged oil seal may create an oil leak that could result in an accumulation of oil in the phase cap area, and eventually cause an electrical short. This could increase the risk of an engine compartment fire causing injury and/or damage to property. Correction: Dealers will dealers to inspect and, if necessary, replace the hydraulic clutch actuator. Note: This recall only affects IONIQ HEV (Hybrid Electric Vehicle) and IONIQ PHEV (Plug-In Hybrid Electric Vehicle) models.
Summary
Certain Plug-In Hybrid (PHEV) vehicles may not comply with Canadian Motor Vehicle Safety Regulations. The compliance label may bear incorrect front and rear Gross Axle Weight Rating (GAWR) values. If the vehicle were to be loaded in excess of either GAWR value, it could lead to premature tire failure and/or vehicle overloading, which could increase the risk of a crash causing injury and/or damage to property. Correction: Hyundai will send a corrected GAWR label to current owners with instructions for proper placement. If owners are not comfortable installing the label themselves, they can take the label to a Hyundai dealer for installation.
Summary
On certain electric vehicles, the aluminium housing of the Electronic Power Control Unit (EPCU) may contain voids which could allow coolant to contact the control unit's circuit board. This could result in a loss of motive power while the vehicle is in motion, which could increase the risk of a crash causing injury and/or damage to property. Correction: Dealers will inspect, and if necessary, replace the EPCU assembly. Note: Ioniq Hybrid and plug-in Hybrid models are not affected by this recall.
