Issue: On a small number of vehicles, the instrument panel may not have been manufactured correctly. As a result, the passenger-front airbag may not inflate properly in a crash. Safety Risk: An airbag that doesn't inflate properly could create an increased risk of injury in a crash. Corrective Actions: None of the affected vehicles have been delivered to customers. BMW will instruct dealers to replace the instrument panel trim before each vehicle is delivered.
Issue: On certain vehicles, the windshield may not have been sealed properly. As a result, water could leak into the passenger-side power distribution box and/or electronic control unit. If this happens, there could be a short circuit and/or the headlights may not work. Safety Risk: A short circuit can create the risk of a fire, even while the vehicle is parked and turned off. Headlights that don't work could reduce visibility and increase the risk of a crash. Corrective Actions: None of the affected vehicles have been delivered to customers. BMW will instruct dealers to inspect and, if necessary, reseal the windshield. The dealer will also replace any damaged wiring and control units.
BMW of North America, LLC (BMW) is recalling certain 2026 X5 Plug-in Hybrid, X5, and X7 vehicles. The windshield may not be sealed properly, which can allow water to enter the power distribution box or electronic control unit.
Water inside electrical components can lead to electronic function failures, such as a loss of headlights, increasing the risk of a crash. In addition, an electrical short-circuit may occur, increasing the risk of a fire while parked or driving.
Dealers will inspect the windshield seal. If any leaks are detected, the seal will be repaired and vehicle control units and wiring will be replaced as necessary, free of charge.
