Engine

May 28, 2009Transport CanadaCampaign: 2009153

Summary

On certain vehicles, the intake air ducts, which are connected to the intermediate resonator in the air intake system of the engine, may separate from the resonator with engine movement. This separation occurs due to the premature ageing of the material used in the intake air ducts which causes excessive shrinking. If the air duct pulls off the resonator, the airflow meter will not accurately measure the intake airflow rate, which could result in unstable idling, poor acceleration, or engine stalling. Engine stalling would result in lost propulsion which, in conjunction with traffic and road conditions, and the driver's reactions, could increase the risk of a crash. Correction: Dealers will replace the intake air duct with an updated version.

ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING

Invalid DateNHTSACampaign: 79065

Summary

NISSAN IS RECALLING 362,891 MY 2003-2007 MURANO VEHICLES. THE INTAKE AIR DUCTS, WHICH ARE CONNECTED TO THE INTERMEDIATE RESONATOR IN THE AIR INTAKE SYSTEM OF THE ENGINE, MAY SEPARATE FROM THE RESONATOR WITH ENGINE MOVEMENT. THIS SEPARATION OCCURS DUE TO THE PREMATURE AGING OF THE MATERIAL USED IN THE INTAKE AIR DUCTS WHICH CAUSES EXCESSIVE SHRINKING.

Component:ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING

Potential Consequence

ENGINE MAY STALL INCREASING THE RISK OF A CRASH.

Remedy

DEALERS WILL INSPECT AND REPLACE/REPAIR THE APPROPRIATE COMPONENTS FREE OF CHARGE. THE RECALL BEGAN ON SEPTEMBER 24, 2009. OWNERS MAY CONTACT NISSAN AT 1-800-647-7261.

SEAT BELTS:REAR/OTHER

Invalid DateNHTSACampaign: 61435

Summary

ON SOME SPORT UTILITY VEHICLES, IN CERTAIN HIGH SPEED FRONTAL CRASHES, THE WEBBING OF A REAR OUTBOARD SEAT BELT MAY CONTACT THE REAR SEAT BACK HINGE WHERE IT CAN BE CUT BY THE SHARP EDGE OF THE METAL PORTION OF THE HINGE.

Component:SEAT BELTS:REAR/OTHER

Potential Consequence

IF THE WEBBING IS COMPLETELY SEPARATED, IT CAN INCREASE THE RISK OF INJURY TO AN OCCUPANT IN A CRASH.

Remedy

DEALERS WILL INSTALL PROTECTORS OVER THE WEBBING OF THE REAR SEAT BELTS. THE RECALL BEGAN ON MARCH 20, 2006. OWNERS MAY CONTACT NISSAN AT 1-800-647-7261.

Seats And Restraints

Feb 13, 2006Transport CanadaCampaign: 2006039

Summary

On certain vehicles, the webbing of a rear outboard seat belt may contact the rear seat back hinge where it can be cut by the sharp edge of the metal portion of the hinge during a frontal crash. As a result, the seat belt may not properly restrain seat occupants, increasing the risk of personal injury. Correction: Dealers will install a plastic cover over the lower part of the webbing and the floor anchor.

FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE:STORAGE:TANK ASSEMBLY

Invalid DateNHTSACampaign: 58480

Summary

ON CERTAIN SPORT UTILITY VEHICLES, DUE TO THE LOCATION OF THE FORWARD EDGE OF THE FUEL TANK, IN THE EVENT THAT A VEHICLE FRONT TIRE RUNS OVER A SMALL, SHARP OBJECT IN THE ROAD, CATCHES IT AND PROPELS IT TOWARDS THE REAR OF THE VEHICLE, IT MAY STRIKE AND PUNCTURE THE FUEL TANK.

Component:FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE:STORAGE:TANK ASSEMBLY

Potential Consequence

A PUNCTURED TANK COULD INCREASE THE RISK OF A FIRE.

Remedy

DEALERS WILL INSTALL PROTECTORS IN FRONT OF THE TANK FREE OF CHARGE. THE RECALL BEGAN ON MARCH 20, 2006. OWNERS MAY CONTACT NISSAN AT 1-800-647-7261.

Fuel System

Jan 6, 2006Transport CanadaCampaign: 2006004

Summary

On certain vehicles, the fuel tank may be punctured by road debris that has been picked up and thrown by the front tires. A fuel leak, in the presence of an ignition source, could result in a fire. Correction: Dealers will install a shield in front of the fuel tank.

ELECTRICAL SYSTEM:ALTERNATOR/GENERATOR/REGULATOR

Invalid DateNHTSACampaign: 55617

Summary

ON CERTAIN SPORT UTILITY VEHICLES, THERE IS A POSSIBILITY THAT A WIRE BREAKING INSIDE THE ALTERNATOR COULD STOP THE BATTERY FROM CHARGING.

Component:ELECTRICAL SYSTEM:ALTERNATOR/GENERATOR/REGULATOR

Potential Consequence

IF THIS HAPPENS, THE CHARGER WARNING AND BRAKE WARNING LAMPS WILL IMMEDIATELY COME ON AND THE BATTERY WILL BEGIN TO DISCHARGE. AFTER A SHORT TIME, THE ENGINE WILL GO INTO A "FALL SAFE" CONDITION WHICH WILL LIMIT VEHICLE SPEED. THE ENGINE WILL STOP RUNNING WHICH COULD RESULT IN A CRASH.

Remedy

DEALERS WILL INSPECT AND REPLACE THE ALTERNATOR WITH A NEW VERSION WHICH HAS BEEN MODIFIED TO PREVENT MOVEMENT OF THE COIL. THE RECALL BEGAN ON AUGUST 1, 2005. OWNERS MAY CONTACT NISSAN AT 1-800-647-7261.

Electrical

Jul 13, 2005Transport CanadaCampaign: 2005208

Summary

On certain vehicles equipped with a Continuously Variable Transmission (CVT), an open circuit in the alternator can occur due to wire fatigue caused by movement of the rotor coil during rapid changes in engine speed. Higher engine compartment temperature in the Murano compared to other Nissan models may also be a contributing factor to the wire fatigue. When an open circuit occurs in the alternator, the charge warning and brake warning lamps come on. If the driver does not seek immediate assistance and continues to drive the vehicle in this condition, the vehicle will operate normally for about one hour. After this time, the battery voltage will drop to a level that causes the engine control module to go into a fail safe mode. During fail safe mode, which lasts about ten minutes, vehicle speed will be reduced due to the throttle plate being held in a fixed position. After this time period, the engine will stop running. Correction: Dealers will replace the alternator with an updated version.
