Nissan Murano Recalls

Summary

Issue: On certain vehicles, a software problem could cause infotainment system display to remain blank when the vehicle is started. As a result, when the transmission is shifted into reverse gear, the rearview camera image would not appear on the display. Note: This recall only affects certain trim levels. Safety Risk: A rearview camera image that doesn't display could reduce a driver's ability to see behind the vehicle while backing up. This could increase the risk of a crash. Corrective Actions: The company will notify owners by mail and advise you to take your vehicle to a dealership to update the infotainment system software.

Summary

Issue: On certain vehicles, the front brake calipers may not have been manufactured correctly. As a result, the caliper(s) could crack and cause reduced braking. Safety Risk: Reduced braking could cause extended stopping distances and increase the risk of a crash. Corrective Actions: Nissan will notify owners by mail and advise you to take your vehicle to a dealership to inspect and, if necessary, replace front brake caliper(s).

Summary

Issue: On a small number of vehicles, the left and right-rear quarter glass may not be properly attached. As a result, the glass could become loose and separate from the vehicle. Safety Risk: A glass panel that detaches from a moving vehicle could create a road hazard for others and increase the risk of a crash. Corrective Action: Nissan will notify owners by mail and advise you to take your vehicle to a dealership to replace both rear quarter glass panels.

Summary

Issue: On certain vehicles, the rear axle housings may not have been properly heat-treated. As a result, a strong impact (such as hitting a curb) could cause a rear axle housing to bend or break. If this happens, a wheel could be mis-aligned or there could be a loss of control and a wheel could separate. Safety Risk: A loss of control and/or a wheel separation could increase the risk of a crash. A wheel that separates could also hit another person or vehicle. Corrective Actions: Nissan will notify owners by mail and instruct you to take your vehicle to a dealer to inspect the production date on the casting stamp of the rear axle housings. Parts that are affected by this problem will be replaced.

Summary

Issue: Certain vehicles may have been assembled with defective front lower control arms (transverse links). As a result, the outer ball joint could separate from the arm and cause a loss of vehicle control. Safety Risk: A loss of vehicle control could increase the risk of a crash. Corrective Actions: Nissan will notify owners by mail and instruct you to take your vehicle to a dealer to inspect and, if necessary, replace the defective front transverse links.

Summary

Issue: On certain vehicles, the antilock brake system (ABS) actuator pump may leak brake fluid and malfunction. This would cause the ABS warning lamp to turn on. If this problem is not fixed, damage to the ABS actuator could result in a short circuit. Note: This is a replacement and expansion of Transport Canada recall 2018-486. All vehicles that did not have the ABS actuator pump replaced under that recall require this repair. Safety Risk: A short circuit could increase the risk of a fire, even while parked. Corrective Actions: The company will notify owners by mail with an interim notice. A final repair is not yet available. If the ABS warning light stays on for 10 seconds or longer, you should park your vehicle outdoors away from other vehicles or structures. You should also call Nissan or Infiniti Roadside assistance to have your vehicle towed to a dealer for repair. A second notice will be sent to you once the final repair parts are available. This letter will advise you to take their vehicle to a dealer to replace the ABS actuator.

Summary

Issue: On certain vehicles, the rear view camera system does not return to the default setting when the transmission is shifted to reverse. This could cause a reduction in rear visibility if a driver had previously adjusted the camera display. Canadian regulations require that the rear view image returns to its original setting each time the camera is turned on. Safety Risk: Reduced rear visibility could increase the risk of a crash. Corrective Actions: The company will notify owners by mail and instruct them to take their vehicle to a dealer to update the software for the rear view camera.

Summary

On certain vehicles, the brake Hydraulic Control Unit (HCU) may become contaminated by a reaction between brake fluid and internal anti-corrosion coatings. This could cause an internal control valve to stick open, potentially increasing brake pedal travel and/or stopping distances. This may create an increased risk of a crash causing injury and/or damage to property. Correction: Dealers will flush the brake system with DOT 4 brake fluid. The HCU will then be tested to detect a possible stuck valve condition. If necessary, HCU will be replaced.

Summary

On certain vehicles, the antilock brake system (ABS) actuator pump may leak brake fluid onto an electronic circuit board, causing it to malfunction. This would cause the illumination of the ABS warning lamp on the instrument panel. If the vehicle continues to be operated, damage to the ABS module could lead to a fire, creating a risk of injury and/or damage to property. Correction: Dealers will inspect and replace the ABS actuator as necessary. Note: This replaces recall 2016-424. Vehicles repaired under that campaign require a second repair under this campaign.

Summary

On certain vehicles, the high pressure power steering hose could separate due to an incorrect clamp. If the hose were to separate, it could cause a power steering fluid leak, resulting in increased steering effort and potential for a fire in the presence of an ignition source. This could increase the risk of injury and/or damage to property. Correction: Dealers will install a power steering high pressure hose kit.
