Hyundai Motor America (Hyundai) is recalling certain 2019-2024 Nexo vehicles. The thermally activated pressure relief device (TPRD) may break and cause a hydrogen gas leak, which can result in a fire while parked.

Remedy

Owners are advised to park outside and away from structures until the recall remedy is completed. Dealers will replace the TPRD, free of charge. Interim notification letters, notifying owners of the safety risk, were mailed November 8, 2024. Final owner notification letters will be mailed in phases, beginning January 6, 2025. Issue: On certain vehicles, the safety valve for the hydrogen fuel system may not have been manufactured properly. As a result, the valve could fail and cause a hydrogen fuel leak. Safety Risk: A hydrogen fuel leak can create the risk of a fire, even while the vehicle is parked and turned off. Corrective Action: To reduce the safety risk, Hyundai advises that you should park your vehicle outdoors and away from other vehicles or structures until the recall repairs have been completed. Hyundai will notify owners by mail and advise you to take your vehicle to a dealership to replace the safety valve.

Corrective Action: Hyundai will notify owners by mail and instruct you to take your vehicle to a dealership to replace the hydrogen gas detection sensors. Hyundai recommends that you may continue driving your vehicle, but that you should park it outside and away from structures until the recall repairs are completed.
