Issue: On certain vehicles, the recall repairs completed by a BMW dealer during recall 12 83 24RC (Transport Canada recall no. 2024-444) may not be effective. As a result, certain vehicles require a second repair. On certain vehicles, if you try to start the engine repeatedly, the starter could overheat. If this happens, and nearby components contact the starter, it could cause a fire. Safety Risk: A fire can create the risk of injury. Corrective Actions: BMW will notify owners by mail and advise you to take your vehicle to a dealership to replace the engine starter.
Summary
Issue: On certain vehicles, the tire and loading information label does not list that there is no spare tire in both official languages. The label reads as "NONE" when it should read as "NONE / AUCUN". Canadian regulations require the information to be listed on the label in both English and French. Safety Risk: This error does not affect vehicle safety. Corrective Actions: This is not a recall. The company has corrected the tire and loading information label for all new vehicles.

Corrective Actions: BMW will notify owners by mail and instruct you to take your vehicle to a dealership to reprogram the roof function control unit. Alternatively, you can download an over-the-air update to fix this problem.

Issue: On certain vehicles, a software problem could cause the rearview camera image not to appear correctly in the central display. Canadian regulations require the rearview image to display when the transmission is shifted into reverse gear. Safety Risk: A rearview camera image that does not display correctly could reduce a driver's ability to see behind the vehicle while backing up. This could increase the risk of a crash. Corrective Actions: BMW will notify owners by mail and instruct you to take your vehicle to a dealer to update the rearview camera software, if necessary.

Issue: On certain vehicles, the rearview camera does not return to the default settings when it turns on. This could make the rearview image difficult to see if a driver had previously adjusted the camera display brightness at or near the lowest setting, and contrast at or near the highest setting. Canadian regulations require that the rearview display returns to the default view each time the camera is turned on. Safety Risk: Reduced rear visibility could increase the risk of a crash. Corrective Actions: The company will notify owners by mail and instruct them to take their vehicle to a dealer to update the software for the rearview camera. Drivers are recommended not to adjust the display brightness at or near the lowest setting, and contrast at or near the highest setting, until this recall is completed.

Issue: The wheel bolts on the left side of certain vehicles may not be properly tightened. This could cause the bolts to loosen or fall off, and could result in a wheel separating from the vehicle. Safety Risk: A wheel separation could increase the risk of a crash. A wheel that separates could also hit another person or vehicle. Corrective Actions: BMW will notify owners by mail and instruct them to take their vehicle to a dealer to replace the left side wheel bolts and ensure they are properly tightened. Owners are advised to not drive their vehicle until the recall repairs are completed.

Issue: On certain vehicles, the high-pressure fuel pumps (HPFP) may have been attached to the cylinder head incorrectly. Over time, this could cause the flange of the HPFP to crack. This could result in a fuel leak in the engine compartment. Safety Risk: A fuel leak in the engine compartment could increase the risk of a fire. Corrective Actions: BMW will notify owners by mail and instruct them to take their vehicle to a dealer to replace the high-pressure fuel pumps.
Summary
Issue: One BMW X5 was produced without a vehicle identification number (VIN) label under the windshield. Canadian regulations require the VIN to be clearly visible from outside the vehicle. Safety Risk: This labelling error is unlikely to affect safety. Corrective Actions: BMW will notify the owner by mail and instruct them to take their vehicle to a dealer to install a VIN label.
Summary
Issue: On certain vehicles, the bolts for the driver's seat and/or seat belt may not be properly tightened. This could cause the seat or seat belt come loose or detach in a crash. Drivers may notice a rattling noise in the area near the bottom of the seat if the bolts are loose. Safety Risk: A driver that is not properly restrained could be injured in a crash. Corrective Actions: The company will notify owners by mail. Owners will be instructed to take their vehicle to a BMW dealer to have the bolts for the driver's seat and seat belt inspected and tightened, as required.
