Issue: On certain vehicles, the tire and loading information label does not list that there is no spare tire in both official languages. The label reads as "NONE" when it should read as "NONE / AUCUN". Canadian regulations require the information to be listed on the label in both English and French. Safety Risk: This error does not affect vehicle safety. Corrective Actions: This is not a recall. The company has corrected the tire and loading information label for all new vehicles.
Issue: On certain vehicles, the footwell module (FRM) may become contaminated by a mixture of salt and moisture inside the vehicle. Over time, this can lead to corrosion that could cause a short circuit. Safety Risk: A short circuit can create a fire risk, even while the vehicle is parked and turned off. Corrective actions: BMW will notify owners by mail. The corrective actions for this recall are under development. BMW advises that you should park your vehicle outdoors and away from other vehicles or structures until the recall repairs have been completed.
Issue: On certain vehicles, the passenger seat belt assemblies may contain defective automatic locking retractors (ALR). As a result, the seat belts may not properly lock to secure a child seat. Safety Risk: A seat belt that is not properly locked could increase the risk of injury in a crash. Corrective Actions: The company will notify owners by mail and instruct you to take your vehicle to a dealer to inspect the seat belts. They will be replaced, if necessary.
Issue: A problem with the driver’s seat belt could cause it not to lock-up as designed during braking or in a crash. Safety Risk: A seat belt that does not lock properly in a crash could cause an increased risk of injury. Corrective Actions: The company will notify owners by mail and instruct them to take their vehicle to a dealer to replace the driver’s seat belt assembly.
On certain vehicles, the footwell module (FRM3) may become contaminated by a mixture of salt and moisture which could lead to corrosion over time. This could cause a short circuit, resulting in overheating of the module that could lead to a fire causing injury and/or damage to property. Correction: Dealers will inspect the footwell module, and replace if necessary. A protective film will be also installed over the module. Note: Owners are advised to park the vehicle outdoors until the recall repairs have been completed.
On certain vehicles, a crankshaft sensor error may cause the engine to stall. This would result in a loss of motive power, which could increase the risk of a crash causing injury and/or damage to property. Correction: Dealers will replace the crankshaft sensor. Note: This condition would result in the illumination of the check engine warning lamp and an “engine malfunction” message appearing in the instrument cluster. Note: This is an expansion of recall 2018-373.
Certain vehicles may fail to comply with the requirements of CMVSS 108 - Lighting System and Retroreflective Devices. The bumper embedded rear inner brake lights turn off when the turn signal light is applied, contrary to requirements of the standard. This could be confusing to a road user located behind the vehicle during simultaneous braking and signalling, which could increase the risk of a crash causing injury and/or damage to property. Correction: Dealers will reprogram the vehicle to correct the non-compliance.
Certain vehicles may have been equipped with airbag inflators that do not meet specifications. This could cause affected airbags to fail to deploy properly in the event of a crash, which could increase the risk of injury to the occupants. Correction: Dealers will replace affected airbag modules. Note: Depending on the vehicle in question, the front passenger, knee, side or curtain airbag modules may be affected.
On certain vehicles, the fabric cover of the side curtain airbags may not have been pre-perforated correctly. This could prevent the airbag from deploying as intended. A side curtain airbag that does not deploy as intended during a crash (where side curtain airbag deployment is warranted) could increase the risk of injury to vehicle occupants. Correction: Dealers will rework the fabric covers of the side curtain airbags.
