Issue: On certain vehicles, the rear brake hoses could fail and cause a progressive brake fluid leak. If this happens, there could be reduced braking. Note: This problem could cause a change in brake pedal feel and travel. Safety Risk: Reduced braking can cause extended stopping distances and increase the risk of a crash. Corrective Actions: Ford will notify owners by mail and advise you to take your vehicle to a dealership to inspect and replace or reroute the rear brake hoses, as necessary.
Issue: On certain vehicles, a software problem could cause the rearview camera image not to display or to freeze when the transmission is shifted into reverse. Safety Risk: A rearview camera image that doesn't display correctly could reduce a driver's ability to see behind the vehicle while backing up. This could increase the risk of a crash. Corrective Actions: Ford will notify owners by mail and send a wireless over-the-air software update to eligible vehicles to update the SYNC software. Alternatively, you may schedule an appointment to have the update performed at a Ford dealership.
Issue: On certain vehicles, long-term exposure to high absolute humidity and temperature, combined with high temperature cycling, may eventually degrade the propellant contained in the driver-front airbag. This could cause the airbag to deploy with more force than normal. If the airbag inflator ruptures, fragments could be propelled toward vehicle occupants or cause damage to the airbag assembly, preventing its proper function. Safety Risk: If the vehicle is involved in a crash requiring an airbag deployment, the airbag inflator could rupture and create a risk of injury. Corrective Action: Ford will notify owners by mail. The corrective actions for this recall are under development. Note: The Canadian climate results in the propellant degrading slowly. This recall is being conducted as a precaution to address future risk. It is expected that all airbag inflators will be replaced before their function would be affected.
Issue: On certain vehicles, the front link shaft (intermediate shaft) bracket can break. If this happens, there could be a loss of power to the wheels. Also, if this happens and the vehicle is parked without the parking brake applied, the vehicle could roll away. Safety Risk: A loss of power to the wheels or a vehicle rollaway could increase the risk of a crash. Corrective Actions: The company will notify owners by mail and instruct you to take your vehicle to a dealer to replace the front link shaft bracket.
Issue: On certain vehicles, the front brake hoses could fail, causing a progressive brake fluid leak. If this happens, the driver may experience a change in brake pedal feel and travel. This can cause reduced brake performance. Note: A brake fluid leak would cause the brake warning light to turn on. Safety Risk: Reduced brake performance could cause extended stopping distances and increase the risk of a crash. Corrective Actions: Ford will notify owners by mail and instruct you to take your vehicle to a dealer to replace the front brake hoses.
Issue: On certain vehicles, the wiring for the front seats could be damaged when a person uses the tilt function. As a result, certain system in the vehicle may not work properly. Depending on which wires are damaged, the occupant classification system may not work properly. This can cause the passenger airbag to not work properly in a crash. The damage could also cause the driver or passenger front airbag to deploy suddenly without a crash. Note: This recall only affects vehicles equipped with 16-way power front seats. Safety Risk: An airbag that does not deploy properly in a crash could increase the risk of injuries. A sudden airbag deployment when there is no crash could also create a risk of injury. Corrective Actions: Ford will notify owners by mail and instruct you to take your vehicle to a dealer to install protective tape on the exposed edge of the cushion frames. The dealer will also inspect the wire harness and repair or replace it, as needed.
Issue: On certain vehicles built with a 3.7-L engine, the positive battery cable may rub against the transmission shifter cable bracket. This could cause a short circuit to occur. Safety Risk: An electrical short circuit could create a fire risk. Corrective Actions: Ford will notify owners by mail and instruct you to take your vehicle to a Ford or Lincoln dealer to install a wire channel shield and protective sleeve on the battery cable.
Issue: On certain vehicles, the bolts that attach the electric power steering assist motor to the steering gear may corrode and break. This could cause a loss of power steering assist. This recall applies to vehicles originally sold or currently registered in areas of heavy road salt usage (Ontario, Quebec, New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island, and Newfoundland & Labrador). Safety Risk: A loss of power steering assist may result in a sudden increase in steering effort, especially at low vehicle speeds. This could increase the risk of a crash. Corrective Actions: The company will notify owners by mail and instruct you to take your vehicle to a Ford or Lincoln dealer to replace the bolts and apply a wax sealer. If one or more of the bolts are broken or missing, a new steering gear will be installed.
Issue: On certain vehicles, the instrument cluster may be blank upon start-up. If this happens, the driver would not be provided with information and warnings about vehicle systems. Safety Risk: If the driver is not provided with information about the vehicle’s systems, there could be an increased risk of a crash. Corrective Actions: The company will notify owners by mail. Owners will be instructed to take their vehicle to a dealer to have the instrument cluster display reprogrammed.
Issue: On certain vehicles, long-term exposure to high absolute humidity and temperature, combined with high temperature cycling, may eventually degrade the propellant contained in the passenger-front airbag. Corrective Actions: Owners will be notified by mail and instructed to take their vehicle to a dealer to have the passenger-front airbag inflator replaced. Note: The Canadian climate results in the propellant degrading slowly. This recall is being conducted as a precaution to address future risk. It is expected that all airbag inflators will be replaced before their function would be affected. Additional note: This recall supersedes recalls 2016-347 (Ford Safety Improvement Program 16S26), 2017-024 (Ford Recall 17S01) and 2018-035 (Ford Recall 18S01). Vehicles repaired under the previous recalls do not require repair under this recall.
