Summary

Issue: On certain vehicles, the brake hydraulic electronic control unit (HECU) could short circuit. Safety Risk: A short circuit could create a fire risk, even while the vehicle is parked and turned off. Corrective Actions: Kia will notify owners by mail and advise you to take your vehicle to a dealership to replace the fuse(s) for the HECU. Kia recommends that you should park your vehicle outdoors and away from other vehicles or structures until the recall repairs have been completed.

Summary

Issue: On certain vehicles, a part in the trunk release latch could fail. If this happens, the emergency trunk release located inside the trunk compartment may not work properly. This could prevent a person that is trapped inside the trunk from opening it. Safety Risk: If a person is closed inside the trunk compartment, they may not be able to get out. This could create a risk of injury. Corrective Actions: Kia will notify owners by mail and advise you to take your vehicle to a dealership to replace the trunk latch base subassembly.

Summary

Issue: On a small number of vehicles, the bolt connecting the lower steering column universal joint may not have been properly tightened. If the bolt loosens, you could lose steering control. Safety Risk: A loss of steering control could create a risk of a crash. Corrective Actions: Kia will notify owners by mail and instruct you to bring your vehicle to a dealership to inspect and tighten the lower steering column universal joint bolt, as necessary.

Issue: On certain vehicles, the brake master cylinder could fail and cause reduced braking. If this happens, the driver may experience increased brake pedal travel and a change in brake pedal feel (soft or low pedal). Safety Risk: Reduced brake performance can cause extended stopping distances and increase the risk of a crash. Corrective Actions: Kia will notify owners by mail and instruct you to take your vehicle to a dealer to replace the brake master cylinder.

Summary

Certain vehicles may not comply with Canadian Motor Vehicle Safety Regulations. The compliance label may bear a printing error within the Gross Axle Weight Rating (GAWR) information, incorrectly stating “840 0”kgs instead of the correct “840”kgs. Correction: A production change has been undertaken to remedy this technical non-compliance condition and has been deemed to be non-safety related. Under a Service Campaign Bulletin, dealers are to use a black paint pen and draw over the additional 0 on the label.

Summary

On certain vehicles, the rear outboard seat belts Automatic Locking Retractor (ALR) may disengage when used with certain child seats. If this occurs the child seat will only be restrained by the Emergency Locking Retractor (ELR) function. As a result certain child seats may not be properly secured. Correction: Dealers will replace both rear outboard seat belt assemblies.

Summary

Certain vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of CMVSS 210.2. The child restraint fixture anchor may contact the rear seat back frame. This interference prevents the forward most portion of the anchor from adequately penetrating the child lower anchors. In the event of a crash, if the child seat is not properly secured, personal injury or death could occur. Correction: Dealers will replace the child lower anchors.

Summary

Certain vehicle may have a manufacturing flaw that could cause the wheels to crack under long term driving fatigue. If cracks occur, wheel noise and vibration will result, becoming progressively worse. If the crack is severe, the wheel could separate from the vehicle which could result in a loss of vehicle control and a crash. Correction: Dealers will replace all four wheels.

Summary

On certain vehicles, the fuel intake nipple of the fuel distributor is subject to fracture or cracking during removal of the quick connect coupling securing the main fuel tube assembly to the fuel intake nipple, or when force is accidentally applied to the intake nipple during the vehicle assembly process or during engine compartment repairs. If this occurs, fuel leakage can result and fire may occur if an ignition source is present. Correction: Dealer will install a redesigned fuel distributor and main fuel tube assembly.
