Issue: On certain vehicles, water could leak into the rear of the vehicle and build up in the spare tire wheel well. If this happens, the fuel pump control unit could short circuit and cause the engine to stall. Note: This problem could cause a check engine light to turn on, a damp carpet in the cargo area and/or the sound of water moving in the spare wheel well while driving. Safety Risk: A sudden loss of power to the wheels could increase the risk of a crash. Corrective Actions: Mercedes-Benz will notify owners by mail and instruct you to take your vehicle to a dealership to inspect for water leaks and install a drain plug in the spare wheel well. The fuel pump control unit will be replaced, if necessary. To reduce the safety risk, you should regularly check for moisture in the cargo area and spare wheel well.

On certain vehicles originally sold or currently registered in areas of heavy road salt usage during winter months (Quebec, New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island, and Newfoundland & Labrador), the bolts that attach the electric power steering assist motor to the steering gear housing may corrode and break. This could cause a loss of power steering assist. The resulting increase in steering effort could create the risk of a crash causing injury and/or damage to property. Correction: Dealers will replace the mounting bolts and apply a corrosion protection coating to the gear housing and bolts. If the bolts bolt cannot be removed, a replacement steering gear will be installed.

On certain vehicles equipped with the Active Curve System (ACS), the oil in the ACS’s reservoir could start foaming under certain dynamic driving situations in combination with an oil level below minimum. Certain vehicles may fail to comply with the requirements of Canada Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (CMVSS) 208 - Occupant Protection in Frontal Impacts and CMVSS 115 - Vehicle Identification Number (VIN). Excess bulkhead insulation material may have been used during manufacturing, and as a result, could extend into the lower area of the windshield. This excess insulation could cover the VIN label, and potentially affect bonding of the windshield. If the windshield bonding is affected on the passenger side, in the event of a crash (where passenger frontal airbag deployment is warranted), the airbag may not deploy as designed, which would fail to meet the requirements of the standard, and increase the risk of injury in a crash. Correction: Dealers will inspect the bulkhead insulation for excess material and remove it as necessary. In the event of compromised windshield bonding, the bonding will be reworked.
