Issue: On certain vehicles, a software problem could cause the body control module (BCM) to reset while driving. As a result, the ignition could switch off and cause a loss of power to the wheels. It could also cause a loss of certain controls, warning lights, malfunction tell-tales and rearview camera system. Safety Risk: A loss of power to the wheels, exterior lights that don't work, and/or controls, warnings and tell-tales that don't display could increase the risk of a crash. A rearview camera image that doesn't display could reduce a driver's ability to see behind the vehicle while backing up, which could also increase the risk of a crash. Corrective Actions: Volkswagen will notify owners by mail and advise you to take your vehicle to a dealership to update the BCM software.

Issue: On certain vehicles, the wiring for the passenger occupant detection system (PODS) may not have been manufactured properly. This could cause the airbag system to turn off the passenger-front airbag even when a passenger is seated. Note: This problem would cause an error message to display on the instrument panel and a warning chime to sound. The airbag indicator light would also display "passenger airbag off". Safety Risk: An airbag that is turned off could increase the risk of injury to a passenger in a crash. Corrective Actions: Volkswagen advises that you shouldn't use the front passenger seat if a PODS error message displays on the instrument panel or if the airbag indicator light displays "passenger airbag off" with an occupant in the seat. Volkswagen will notify owners by mail and advise you to take your vehicle to a dealership to repair the passenger-front seat wiring harness.

Due to a software issue, if the driver does not have their hands on the steering wheel for an extended period, the brake jolt triggered by the Emergency Assist (EA) or Travel Assist (TA) assistance functions meant to alert the driver may be misinterpreted as the driver braking. As a result, the Emergency Assist (EA) or Travel Assist (TA) assistance functions are deactivated. Note: The instrument cluster may fail to illuminate the visual and audible warnings that the safety functions are deactivated.
A loss of safety functions could increase the risk of an accident causing injury or death to vehicle occupants and other road users.
Owners of affected vehicles will be contacted by Volkswagen and are asked to arrange with their nearest authorised Volkswagen dealer to have the software updated, free of charge.
