NOTE: OWNER SELF INSPECTION - REPAIR ONLY IF PROBLEM OCCURS. THE SEAT BELT MAY LOCK-UP OR JAM IN THE RETRACTOR. IF THIS OCCURS, VEHICLE OCCUPANTS WILL BE UNABLE TO USE THE SEAT BELT. THUS, IN THE EVENT OF A VEHICLE CRASH, UNBELTED OCCUPANTS WILL BE MORE AT RISK OF INJURY. CORRECTION: VEHICLES WILL BE INSPECTED AND ANY RETRACTOR SIDE BELTS LOCKING UP OR JAMMED WILL BE REPLACED.
Certain Camaro, Firebird, Monte Carlo and Grand Prix equipped with a 5.0L engine, and 5.7L Corvettes. High ignition coil temperatures combined with the stress of higher voltage may break down the coating of the high output ignition coil secondary windings. Declining ignition voltage may lead to engine misfire, hesitation sags or no re-start. Depending on road condition, this could result in a significant safety hazard. Correction: High output ignition coil will be replace, spark plug gap will be revised and a spark plug gap revision label will be installed.
LOSS OF RETENTION OF THE MECHANISM UTILIZED TO RETAIN THE DIFFERENTIAL CROSS SHAFT IN ITS PROPER POSITION IN THE REAR AXLE DIFFERENTIAL CASE ASSEMBLY MAY RESULT IN A RATTLE COMPLAINT AT LOW SPEED AND POSSIBLE LOCK UP OF REAR WHEELS, RESULTING IN A VEHICLE CRASH WITHOUT PRIOR WARNING.
THE CRUISE CONTROL VACUUM SOLENOID VALVES MAY MALFUNCTION AT ANY- TIME THE ENGINE IS RUNNING WITH THE CRUISE CONTROL ENGAGED, RESULTING IN UNEXPECTED ENGINE ACCELERATION.
THE INSULATION OF THE POSITIVE BATTERY CABLE MAY RUB AGAINST THE ENGINE WIRING HARNESS BRACKET OR GROUND STUD. IF THE INSULATION WEARS THROUGH, IT COULD RESULT IN RAPID BATTERY DISCHARGE AND LOSS OF HEADLIGHTS. SUDDEN LOSS OF HEADLIGHTS UNDER SEVERE WEATHER OR NIGHT DRIVING CONDITIONS COULD RESULT IN VEHICLE CRASH WITHOUT PRIOR WARNING.
THE FRONT BRAKE CALIPER BRACKET TO STEERING KNUCKLE ATTACHING BOLTS MAY LOOSEN AND FALL OUT. THE FRONT BRAKE CALIPER MAY THEN BECOME PARTIALLY DETACHED FROM THE KNUCKLE ASSEMBLY AND MAY CAUSE THE WHEEL TO LOCK. SHOULD THIS OCCUR WHILE THE VEHICLE IS IN MOTION, IT COULD RESULT IN LOSS OF CONTROL AND VEHICLE CRASH WITHOUT PRIOR WARNING.
CERTAIN HONEYWELL FRAM RACING BRAND HP4 AND HP8 OIL FILTERS THAT WERE MANUFACTURED FROM MAY 25, 2006, THROUGH SEPTEMBER 14, 2007, AND SOLD FOR USE AS REPLACEMENT EQUIPMENT FOR VEHICLES LIST ABOVE. THE AFFECTED FILTERS ARE MARKED WITH A DATE CODE A61451 THROUGH A72571 SEQUENTIALLY. THE DATE CODE AND PART NUMBER APPEAR ON THE FILTER HOUSING. FRAM RACING HP4 AND HP8 OIL FILTERS NOT BEARING A DATE CODE IN THIS RANGE ARE NOT AFFECTED BY THIS RECALL. THE GASKET OF THE OIL FILTER BECOMES MORE PLIABLE UNDER HIGH TEMPERATURES AND PRESSURES.
THIS CONDITION MAY CAUSE INADEQUATE SEALING AND LOSS OF ENGINE OIL, POSSIBLY RESULTING IN A FIRE.
HONEYWELL WILL REPLACE THE AFFECTED OIL FILTERS FREE OF CHARGE. THE RECALL BEGAN DURING NOVEMBER 2007. OWNERS CAN CONTACT FRAM CUSTOMER SERVICE TOLL-FREE AT 1-800-890-2075.
UNDER CERTAIN VEHICLE OPERATIONS AND OCCUPANT USAGE CONDITIONS, THE SAFETY BELTS CAN LOCKUP OR JAM IN THE SAFETY BELT RETRACTOR.
IF LOCKUP OCCURS, IT IS IMPOSSIBLE TO PULL BELT OUT OFTHE RETRACTOR. THE OCCUPANT OF A SEAT WITH AN UNUSABLE SAFETY BELT ISSUBJECT TO INCREASED RISK OF INJURY OR DEATH IN THE EVENT OF A SUDDEN STOP ORACCIDENT.
REPLACE THE SAFETY BELTS IF THE LOCKUP OCCURS.
CARS MAY LOSE THE WIRE SNAP RINGS THAT HOLD THE DIFFERENTIAL CROSS SHAFT IN POSITION IN THE REAR AXLE DIFFERENTIAL CASE ASSEMBLY, ALLOWING THE SHAFT TO MOVE. CONSEQUENCE OF DEFECT: THE CROSS SHAFT MOVEMENT COULD CAUSE THE SHAFT TO CONTACT THE CARRIER OR PINION TEETH, POSSIBLY LOCKING UP THE REAR WHEELS AND RESULT IN A CRASH WITHOUT PRIOR WARNING.
INSTALL A REAR AXLE DIFFERENTIAL CROSS SHAFT RETAINING KIT.
THE CRUISE CONTROL VACUUM SOLENOID VALVES MAY MALFUNCTION AT ANY TIME THE ENGINE IS RUNNING AND THE CRUISE CONTROL IS ENGAGED AND CAUSE UNEXPECTED ENGINE ACCELERATION. CONSEQUENCE OF DEFECT: LOSS OF ACCELERATOR CONTROL COULD RESULT IN A VEHICLE CRASH WITHOUT PRIOR WARNING.
INSTALL AND RELOCATE A NEW CRUISE CONTROL SERVO ASSEMBLY.
