Issue: On certain vehicles, water could leak into the rear of the vehicle and build up in the spare tire wheel well. If this happens, the fuel pump control unit could short circuit and cause the engine to stall. Note: This problem could cause a check engine light to turn on, a damp carpet in the cargo area and/or the sound of water moving in the spare wheel well while driving. Safety Risk: A sudden loss of power to the wheels could increase the risk of a crash. Corrective Actions: Mercedes-Benz will notify owners by mail and instruct you to take your vehicle to a dealership to inspect for water leaks and install a drain plug in the spare wheel well. The fuel pump control unit will be replaced, if necessary. To reduce the safety risk, you should regularly check for moisture in the cargo area and spare wheel well.

Issue: On certain vehicles, corrosion could cause the brake booster to fail. If this happens, there may be an increase in brake pedal effort and increase the distance needed to stop the vehicle. In rare cases of severe corrosion, the brake booster could separate completely and cause a loss of brakes. Safety Risk: A loss of brakes can increase the risk of a crash. Corrective Actions: Mercedes-Benz advises you to stop driving your vehicle immediately. The company will notify owners by mail and instruct you to contact a local Mercedes-Benz dealership to arrange for towing and an inspection. The dealer will remove the rubber brake booster sleeve and determine whether the vehicle is safe to drive or if it can't be driven and a parts replacement is necessary. Also, depending on the results of the inspection, you may need to return within two years for a re-inspection.

On certain vehicles originally sold or currently registered in areas of heavy road salt usage during winter months (Quebec, New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island, and Newfoundland & Labrador), the bolts that attach the electric power steering assist motor to the steering gear housing may corrode and break. This could cause a loss of power steering assist. The resulting increase in steering effort could create the risk of a crash causing injury and/or damage to property. Correction: Dealers will replace the mounting bolts and apply a corrosion protection coating to the gear housing and bolts. If the bolts bolt cannot be removed, a replacement steering gear will be installed.

On certain vehicles equipped with the Active Curve System (ACS), the oil in the ACS’s reservoir could start foaming under certain dynamic driving situations in combination with an oil level below minimum. The oil foam could leak out of the oil reservoir through the vent holes in the sealing cap and spray onto hot surface components of the exhaust system. This could increase the risk of fire causing injury and/or damage to property. Correction: Dealers will inspect the ACS reservoir for proper oil level and replace the sealing cap with an updated part.

These conditions could increase the risk of injury to the occupants in the event of a crash. Correction: Dealers will update the affected control units.

On certain vehicles equipped with Mercedes-Benz accessory allseason floor mats, the mats may interfere with the accelerator pedal when the pedal is fully depressed, causing the accelerator pedal to become temporarily stuck in the open position or to retract more slowly than normal. An accelerator pedal that does not retract normally could result in the vehicle not decelerating as expected when the driver lifts their foot from the accelerator pedal. This could increase the risk of a crash causing property damage and/or personal injury. Correction: Dealers will replace the all-season floor mats with an updated design.
