Maserati North America, Inc. (Maserati) is recalling certain model year 2005-2008 Quattroporte, 2008 Granturismo, and 2008 Alfa Romeo 8C vehicles. The rear tie rod assemblies may have insufficient anti-corrosion material applied, allowing them to weaken and possibly fail.
Failure of the tie rods may result in a loss of vehicle control and increase the risk of a crash.
Maserati will notify owners and dealers will replace the tie rod assemblies. The recall began on June 27, 2013. Customers may contact Maserati at 1-877-696-2737. Maserati's recall campaign number is 205.

On certain vehicles, the front and rear suspension upper and lower ball joint nuts may have been incorrectly torqued during vehicle assembly. This could allow the nuts to loosen, which may result in a loss of vehicle control and a crash causing property damage, personal injury or death. Correction: Dealers will verify tightening torque of the ball joint nuts and, if necessary, replace the suspension arms, ball joints and hub carriers.

Certain vehicles have a non-functioning button with the words "passenger airbag off" etched into it. This button is located, along with an LED light, on a console adjacent to the sunroof. This non-functioning button does not deactivate the passenger side airbag, nor is the LED light an indication that the passenger side airbag has been deactivated. The button is non-functional and cannot be depressed when pushed. Correction: Dealers will replace the console with one which does not contain the non-functioning button and LED light.

On certain vehicles, the outer door handle's internal wiring harness may short circuit and open the door's electrical switch. In certain situations the door might open without any action from the vehicle occupant. The central locking system will prevent this from occurring at speeds greater than 10 km/h. Correction: Dealers will replace the outer door handles.

2005 Maserati Quattroporte recall questions
NHTSA lists 1 recall for the 2005 Maserati Quattroporte model year. That counts campaigns naming this model year, not recalls on your vehicle: many cover only a VIN range or production window. Transport Canada lists 4 Canadian campaigns for the Canadian-market model, shown separately.
Enter your VIN in NHTSA's recall lookup or Maserati's own, or call a Maserati dealer with your VIN. Cardog uses your VIN only to find the model year; the recalls shown here are listed for that model year and are not matched to your VIN.
Not necessarily. Transport Canada campaigns cover vehicles sold in Canada. For a vehicle sold in the United States, go by the NHTSA listing and NHTSA's VIN lookup.
Safety recall repairs are normally done at no charge by an authorized Maserati dealer. The manufacturer's notice for each campaign sets out the remedy and any conditions, so confirm with the dealer when you book.
Once Maserati's lookup or a dealer confirms a recall applies, book the repair with an authorized Maserati dealer and bring your VIN. If the manufacturer's notice says not to drive the vehicle or to park it outside, follow that instruction. Parts can take time, so book early.
Follow the manufacturer's notice for that recall. Most allow normal driving until the repair; some tell owners to stop driving or to park outside until it is fixed. Cardog does not grade recalls by severity: the manufacturer's notice and your dealer are the source.
Manufacturers must notify owners they have on record. If you bought the vehicle used or have moved, update your details with Maserati so notices reach you, and check NHTSA's lookup from time to time.
