Honda (American Honda Motor Co.) is recalling certain 1998 Acura 2.2CL, 1998-1999 Acura 2.3CL, 1998-1999 Acura 3.0CL, 2001 Acura 3.2CL and Acura MDX, 1998-2000 Honda Accord Coupe, Accord Sedan, Civic Sedan, Odyssey and Acura 3.5RL, 1999-2000 Acura 3.2TL, 1996-2000 Civic Coupe, 1997-2000 CR-V, 1997-1998 EV Plus, and 1998-1999 Isuzu Oasis vehicles. These vehicles were equipped with Non-Azide Driver air bag Inflators (NADI) and do not contain phase stabilized ammonium nitrate (PSAN) propellant. Due to a manufacturing issue, the NADI inflators may absorb moisture, causing the inflators to rupture or the air bag cushion to underinflate.
In the event of a crash necessitating air bag deployment, an inflator rupture may result in metal fragments striking the driver or other occupants. An underinflated air bag cushion may not properly protect the occupant. These scenarios increase the risk of serious injury or death.
Honda will notify owners, and dealers will inspect the driver frontal air bag inflator, and replace it if necessary, with an inflator of a different design, free of charge. The recall began October 1, 2020. Owners may contact American Honda's Customer Support & Campaign Center at 1-888-234-2138 or Isuzu customer service at 1-800-255-6727.

Issue: On certain vehicles, exposure to moisture over time could cause the driver-front airbag not to inflate properly in a crash. In some cases, this could cause an airbag not to fully inflate, while in others it could cause it to deploy with more force than normal. It could also cause the inflator to rupture. If the airbag inflator ruptures, small pieces of metal could be propelled toward vehicle occupants or cause damage to the airbag and prevent its proper function. Safety Risk: In a crash requiring an airbag deployment, the driver-front airbag may not inflate properly or the inflator could rupture. This could create a risk of injury. Corrective Actions: The company will notify owners by mail. There may be a significant delay before replacement parts are available. The company will send you a second letter once replacement parts are available and instruct you to take your vehicle to a dealer to inspect the driver-front airbag inflator. If the inflator requires replacement, a newly design part will be installed.

On certain vehicles, a dash light dimmer circuit, mounted in the multiplex control unit may be damaged by heat build-up if the dimmer circuit is operated at a setting that is less than full intensity. This would cause a transistor in the module to fail resulting in loss of instrument cluster lighting. Such a condition would prevent the driver from reading the speedometer or other instruments when operating the vehicle in the dark. Correction: Multiplex unit will be replaced.

Correction: Dealers will install protective, corrugated plastic tubing over the wire harness and pipe. Any damaged wires will be repaired or replaced.

On manual sliding doors, insufficient clearance between the lock ratchet mechanism and the plastic lock body may interfere with the ratchet's motion and prevent proper latching. On power sliding doors, excessive grease in the remote control actuator could cause a slow return of the activation lever to the proper latching position. If the activation lever has not returned to the proper latching position by the time the sliding door closes, the door will not latch. Correction: Sliding door latches and power door lock remote control actuators (if applicable) will be replaced.

On certain vehicles, in extremely cold, wet weather, water in the resonator's front and rear subchambers can freeze and plug the "through holes" that allow drainage to the centre subchamber's drain hole. Water trapped in the front and rear subchambers could cause water vapour to be drawn into the throttle body. This may cause ice to form on the throttle shaft during freezing temperatures, which may interfere with the throttle plate's return to the idle position. Correction: Two additional drain holes will be drilled in the front and rear subchambers of the air intake resonators, free of charge.
