THIS IS NOT A SAFETY RECALL IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE SAFETY ACT. HOWEVER, IT IS DEEMED A SAFETY IMPROVEMENT CAMPAIGN BY THE AGENCY. VEHICLE DESCRIPTION: 1973-1979 LIGHT DUTY PICKUP TRUCKS AND VANS EQUIPPED WITH FLEXIBLE ENGINE COOLING FANS. THE FLEX FANS WERE INSTALLED ON VEHICLES EQUIPPED WITH A HEAVY COOLING SYSTEM AND WITHOUT AIR CONDITIONING. OVER TIME, CRACKS CAN DEVELOP IN THE FAN BLADE DUE TO FATIGUE, ENGINE MODIFICATIONS, OR VEHICLE CRASHES.
THIS COULD RESULT IN SEPARATION OF THE FAN BLADES, INCREASING THE RISK OF INJURY OR DEATH.
OWNERS ARE BEING ASKED TO INSPECT THE FAN ASSEMBLY TO CONFIRM IF IT IS EQUIPPED WITH THE FAN IN QUESTION. THE FAN ASSEMBLY HAS SEVEN FAN BLADES AND IS IDENTIFIED BY PART NUMBER 336032 ON EACH FAN BLADE. IF THE VEHICLE IS EQUIPPED WITH THE FLEXIBLE FAN ASSEMBLY, YOU SHOULD REPLACE THE FAN. A NEW FOUR-BLADE FIXED PITCH FAN (PART NUMBER 461317) WILL BE AVAILABLE WITHIN THE NEXT FEW WEEKS. GM RECOMMENDS THAT YOU NEVER STAND IN LINE WITH OR NEAR THE ENGINE COOLING FAN WHEN REVVING THE ENGINE. FOR THE OWNER'S PROTECTION, THE HOOD SHOULD BE CLOSED WHEN REVVING THE ENGINE. GM HAS DECIDED TO CONDUCT A SERVICE CAMPAIGN TO ADVISE OWNERS TO REPLACE THE FAN ASSEMBLY. OWNERS CAN CONTACT CHEVROLET AT 1-800-222-1020 OR GMC AT 1-800-462-8782, CONCERNING THIS PROGRAM.

On certain vehicles, the service-part fuel tanks may have one or more pairs of the six projection welds which attach the sender-unit ring to the tank that do not meet specification. These out of specification welds may fracture during sender unit installation resulting in fuel leakage and a possible vehicle fire. Note: recall covers 1975-1986 chevrolet/gmc c/k pickup and chassis cab trucks and 1987-1991 chevrolet/gmc r/v pickup and chassis cab trucks. Correction: vehicles with fractured sender ring weld pairs will have a new fuel tank installed.

On certain vehicles equipped with cruise control. The brake stop light and cruise control switch may be assembled with incorrect lubrication on the actuating plunger. This results in adverse wear between the internal contacts of the switch which can cause the plunger to stick and cause the rear brake stop lights to become inoperative and if the cruise control is actuated, to stay electrically engaged. Without stop light operation, a vehicle approaching from the rear would not be aware that the brake was being applied. If the cruise control would not disengage through brake pedal operation vehicle sp

On certain C20 pickup trucks, the front brake hoses may have improperly oriented hose fittings which could cause the right hose to rub against the upper control arm or could leave the left hose twisted resulting in a faulty attachment at the frame fitting. Either condition could result in failure of either brake hose causing a loss of front braking action.

1979 Chevrolet C Series recall questions
NHTSA lists 1 recall for the 1979 Chevrolet C Series model year. That counts campaigns naming this model year, not recalls on your vehicle: many cover only a VIN range or production window. Transport Canada lists 3 Canadian campaigns for the Canadian-market model, shown separately.
Enter your VIN in NHTSA's recall lookup or Chevrolet's own, or call a Chevrolet dealer with your VIN. Cardog uses your VIN only to find the model year; the recalls shown here are listed for that model year and are not matched to your VIN.
Not necessarily. Transport Canada campaigns cover vehicles sold in Canada. For a vehicle sold in the United States, go by the NHTSA listing and NHTSA's VIN lookup.
Safety recall repairs are normally done at no charge by an authorized Chevrolet dealer. The manufacturer's notice for each campaign sets out the remedy and any conditions, so confirm with the dealer when you book.
Once Chevrolet's lookup or a dealer confirms a recall applies, book the repair with an authorized Chevrolet dealer and bring your VIN. If the manufacturer's notice says not to drive the vehicle or to park it outside, follow that instruction. Parts can take time, so book early.
Follow the manufacturer's notice for that recall. Most allow normal driving until the repair; some tell owners to stop driving or to park outside until it is fixed. Cardog does not grade recalls by severity: the manufacturer's notice and your dealer are the source.
Manufacturers must notify owners they have on record. If you bought the vehicle used or have moved, update your details with Chevrolet so notices reach you, and check NHTSA's lookup from time to time.
