VEHICLES EQUIPPED WITH CERTAIN EIGHT CYLINDER ENGINES. THE EXHAUST GAS RECIRCULATION (E.G.R.) BACKPRESSURE TRANSDUCER TUBE MAY CRACK CAUSING EXCESSIVE LEAKAGE IN THE BACKPRESSURE SENSING CIRCUIT AND INCREASED EMISSIONS OF NITROGEN OXIDES. ALSO, ON SOME VEHICLES, AN IMPROPER E.G.R. PORTED VACUUM SWITCH CAN CAUSE SIMILAR INCREASES IN EMISSIONS OF NITROGEN OXIDES. THESE VEHICLES MAY NOT COMPLY WITH CANADA MOTOR VEHICLE SAFETY STANDARD 1103 - EXHAUST EMISSIONS.
ALL 1972 LINCOLNS AND CERTAIN 1972 TORINOS, MONTEGOS AND RANCHEROS EQUIPPED WITH 302, 251 OR 400 CUBIC INCH ENGINES AND AIR CONDITIONING. VEHICLES ARE EQUIPPED WITH FLEXIBLE SEVEN BLADE ENGINE COOLING FANS THAT CAN BECOME OVERSTRESSED RESULTING IN FATIGUE CRACKING. FREGMENTS OF THE FAN BLADE CAN SEPARATE FROM THE FAN WITHOUT PRIOR WARNING WHILE THE ENGINE IS OPERATING. PROPELLED FRAGMENTS CAN DAMAGE UNDERHOOD COMPONETNS AND/OR CAUSE PERSONAL INJURY TO INDIVIDUALS IN THE VICINITY OF A VEHICLE OPERATING WITH THE HOOD OPEN.
CERTAIN 1976 MODEL FORD AND LINCOLN-MERCURY VEHICLES ARE EQUIPPED WITH ACCELERATOR CABLES THAT INCORPORATE A STAMPED FITTING AT THE DASH PANEL ATTACHMENT LOCATION. THE SUSPECT CABLE ASSEMBLIES CONTAIN FITTINGS IN WHICH THE BUSING SHOULDER RETAINING BEAD IS OVER SIZED WHICH MAY CAUSE THE BUSHING TO DISLODGE DURING FULL ACCELERATION. A DISLODGED BUSHING COULD HOLD THE CARBURETOR AT A HALF-OPEN THROTTLE POSITION.
1976 MODELS EQUIPPED WITH AIR CONDITIONING. SHIFTING OF THE HEATER DEFROSTER SYSTEM SELECTOR CONTROL FROM CERTAIN HEATING, VENTILATION AND AIR CONDITIONING MODES TO THE DEFROST MODE MAY RESULT IN A DELAY IN MOVEMENT OF THE MODE DOOR.
VEHICLES MAY HAVE BEEN BUILT WITH OVER-TENSIONED PARKING BRAKE SYSTEMS.
1975 VEHICLES EQUIPPED WITH A 460 CID ENGINE AND A 4350-4V CARB. 1 - A CARBURETOR FUEL INLET CROSS-CHANNEL "O" RING ON THE SEALING PLUG COULD BE PUSHED OUT DURING VEHICLE OPERATION, ALLOWING GAS TO BE DISCHARGED ONTO THE ENGINE. SHOULD THIS OCCUR, THE POTENTIAL FOR UNDERHOOD FIRE COULD EXIST. 2 - CARBURETOR SECONDARY THROTTLE STOP LEVERS MAY HAVE BEEN INCORRECTLY STAMPED. UNDER CERTAIN CONDITIONS THIS COULD ALLOW ENGINE "RUN-AWAY" DUT TO SECONDARY THROTTLE PLATES BEING HELD OPEN. ACCELERATION OF THE VEHICLE TO EXCESSIVE SPEEDS MAY OCCUR
