On certain vehicles, the clockspring assembly for the driver's airbag may become damaged and fail. As a result the airbag may not function as intended, and the instrument panel warning lamp would illuminate. Failure of the driver's frontal airbag to deploy during a crash (where deployment is warranted) could increase the risk of personal injury to the seat occupant. Correction: Dealers will inspect and, if necessary, replace the airbag clockspring assembly.
On certain vehicles, the shift cable may have been installed incorrectly, causing tension on the cable not anticipated in the design. This could cause the cable to detach from the shifter assembly's dowel pin, preventing the transmission from being shifted. The shift lever can then be moved into the PARK position while the transmission is still in the last used gear before detachment. If the driver leaves the vehicle without engaging the parking brake, the vehicle could roll away. Whether attended or not, a rollaway vehicle could strike another vehicle, stationary object, or a bystander, causing property damage and/or personal injury. Correction: Dealers will inspect and, if necessary, replace the shift lever cable bushing.
