On certain vehicles, the secondary hood latch could corrode, and may result in the mechanical binding of the latch. This could cause the secondary hood latch to remain in the open position when the hood is closed. If the vehicle were to be driven with the primary hood latch disengaged, or primary hood latch is released while driving, there is a potential that the secondary hood latch may not hold the hood closed while the vehicle is in motion. If this were to occur, it could compromise the driver’s ability to see the road and its users, as well as cause damage to the windshield. These issues could result in a crash causing injury and/or property damage. Correction: Dealers will replace the hood latch mechanisms.

When a defect also affects Canadian vehicles, the manufacturer files a separate notice with Transport Canada, often under a different number and sometimes covering a different set of vehicles. For a Canadian vehicle, go by the Transport Canada listing and Hyundai's Canadian lookup.
Safety recall repairs are normally done at no charge by an authorized Hyundai dealer. The manufacturer's notice for each campaign sets out the remedy and any conditions, so confirm with the dealer when you book.
