Issue: On certain vehicles, the shifter cable may detach. As a result, the transmission may not shift gears when the shifter is moved. Additionally, if the vehicle isn't in the Park (P) position, and the parking brake isn't applied, the vehicle could roll away. Note: This recall only affects vehicles equipped with an automatic transmission. Vehicles that were repaired under V34 (Transport Canada recall no. 2019-183) also require this repair. Safety Risk: A parked vehicle that rolls away could create the risk of an injury or a crash. Corrective Actions: FCA Canada will notify owners in writing. The corrective actions for this recall are under development.
Issue: On certain vehicles, the tire and loading information label does not list that there is no spare tire in both official languages. The label reads as "NONE" when it should read as "NONE / AUCUN". Canadian regulations require the information to be listed on the label in both English and French. Safety Risk: This error does not affect vehicle safety. Corrective Actions: This is not a recall. The company has corrected the tire and loading information label for all new vehicles.
Issue: On certain cars equipped with an automatic transmission, the shifter cable may detach. This could cause the transmission not to shift gears when the shifter is moved. If a driver attempts to exit the car while it is not in the Park position, and the parking brake is not applied, the car could move suddenly. Safety Risk: Sudden and unexpected movement of the car could increase the risk of a crash. Corrective Actions: The company will notify owners by mail and instruct them to take their vehicle to a dealer to replace the transmission side shifter cable bushing with an improved one. Note: The gear position indicator on the instrument cluster and next to the shifter will continue to work properly. In addition, if the driver's door is opened while the transmission is not in Park, the door ajar messages will display on the instrument cluster and chimes will sound.
On certain vehicles equipped with the Roadside Emergency Kit containing a Kidde fire extinguishers with black plastic handles and valves, the fire extinguishers may become clogged or require excessive force to activate. Also, the nozzle may detach from the valve assembly with enough force that it could cause injury, and fail to discharge. In case of fire, failure of the extinguisher to function could result in injury and/or property damage. Correction: Dealers will replace the suspect Kidde fire extinguisher with a new Kidde fire extinguisher with a steel nozzle. On certain vehicles, an improper crimp of a diode in the windshield washer pump may cause the windshield wiper circuit located in the body control module (BCM) to fail. If this occurs, the windshield wipers would become inoperative, which could limit the driver’s visibility under certain conditions which may increase the risk of a crash causing injury and/or damage to property. Correction: Dealers will inspect and replace the defective windshield wiper pump.
Certain vehicles equipped with a manual transaxle may contain an engine control module (ECM) that lacks one of three levels of fault detection software. If a fault occurs causing engine power surging beyond what would be expected for the accelerator pedal position, the software may not detect the fault and may not reduce engine torque. This could allow an unintended acceleration or an increase in engine power output which, depending on the driver's reactions and traffic conditions, could increase the risk of a crash resulting in injury and/or damage to property. Correction: Dealers will reprogram the ECM with updated software. Note: The driver of the vehicle can override any such event by depressing the clutch and/or the service brake pedals.
On certain vehicles, engine oil may migrate from the vacuum pump into the brake booster. Prolonged brake booster diaphragm exposure to engine oil could cause the diaphragm to fail, leading to a loss of brake booster assist. This may result in increased brake pedal effort, which could increase stopping distances, potentially resulting in a crash causing injury and/or damage property. Correction: Dealers will inspect the brake booster grommet for the presence of oil. If no oil is found, the vacuum tube assembly will be replaced. If oil is found, the vacuum pump, vacuum tube assembly, brake booster and master cylinder will be replaced.
On certain vehicles, a defect in the Transmission Control Module (TCM) mounting bracket may cause the printed circuit board solder joints to separate, resulting in an electrical open circuit in the TCM. An open circuit in the TCM could cause the transaxle to shift into “Neutral” without warning. If the transmission shifts into neutral, the vehicle may experience a loss of motive power, increasing the risk of a crash causing injury and/or property damage. Correction: Dealers will replace the Transmission Control Module and the TCM mounting bracket.
On certain vehicles, a fault in the tire pressure monitoring system (TPMS) could cause the vehicle to fail to display the low pressure telltale when low tire pressure is detected. An inoperative TPMS could allow underinflated tires to go unnoticed by the driver, which could affect vehicle stability and increase the risk of a crash causing injury and/or damage to property. Correction: Dealers will update vehicle software.
On certain vehicles equipped with the "Mopar 13" upfit package, the front side airbag may not have been installed correctly. This could cause the front side airbag to not deploy properly or perform as designed in certain types of crashes, potentially increasing the risk of injury to occupants. Correction: Dealers will inspect the side airbag installation and remove/reinstall as necessary.
