THESE VEHICLES MAY EXPERIENCE PREMATURE REAR WHEEL SKID WHEN THE BRAKE PEDAL IS APPLIED. THE ABSENCE OF ANY CORRECTIVE STEERING OR BRAKING ACTION ON THE PART OF THE DRIVER COULD CAUSE THE REAR OF THE VEHICLE TO SKID OUT OF ITS LANE OF TRAVEL.
VEHICLES WITH MANUAL TRANSMISSIONS. A LOW SPRING LOAD ON THE PAWL TO ENGAGE QUADRANT TEETH OF THE SELF ADJUSTING CLUTCH MECHANISM WILL RESULT IN SLIPPAGE AND PREVENT CLUTCH RELEASE WHEN THE PEDAL IS DEPRESSED TO THE FLOOR.
VEHICLES WITH MANUAL TRANSMISSIONS. VEHICLES MAY BE EQUIPPED WITH DEFECTIVE BRAKE PROPORTIONER VALVES WHICH COULD CAUSE THE REAR BRAKES TO LOCK UP PREMATURELY DURING HIGH DECELERATION BRAKING. THIS COULD RESULT IN LOSS OF VEHICLE CONTROL AND VEHICLE CRASH WITHOUT PRIOR WARNING.
CERTAIN SKYLARK SPORT WERE BUILT WITH AN INCORRECT TURN SIGNAL FLASHER THAT WILL CAUSE THE FLASH RATE TO BE TOO FAST. ALSO, THE TURN SIGNAL INDICATOR LIGHTS IN THE INSTRUMENT P[ANEL WILL NOT REMAIN ILLUMINATED IF ONE OR MORE OF THE SIGNAL LAMP BULBS FAILS. THESE VEHICLES DO NOT COMPLY WITH CANADA MOTOR VEHICLE SAFETY STANDARD 108 - LIGHTING EQUIPMENT.
VEHICLES EQUIPPED WITH AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSIONS. THE AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION COOLER LINE HOSES MAY FAIL DURING VEHICLE OPERATION. TRANSMISSION FLUID LEAKAGE IN THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT MAY RESULT IN A VEHICLE FIRE.
THE STEERING GEAR MOUNTING PLATE MAY DEVELOP FATIGUE CRACKS WHICH WOULD ALLOW THE STEERING GEAR ATTACHMENT TO BECOME LOOSE. THE DRIVER MAY NOTICE THAT THE STEERING WHEEL CAN BE TURNED SEVERAL DEGREES BEFORE A CHANGE IN VEHICLE DIRECTION OCCURS.
UNDER CERTAIN CONDITIONS, VEHICLES MAY EXPERIENCE PREMATURE REAR WHEEL SKID DURING BRAKING. REAR WHEEL SKIDDING IS MOST LIKELY TO OCCUR ON A WET OR SLICK SURFACE.
DEPENDING ON THE TRANSMISSION TYPE AND THE BRAKE COMPONENTS THAT HAVE BEEN INSTALLED, DEALERS WILL INSPECT AND REPLACE OR REPAIR, AS NECESSARY, CERTAIN FRONT BRAKE COMPONENTS, AND THE PARKING BRAKE CABLES. THE REAR BRAKE SHOES AND LININGS WILL BE REPLACED WITH PARTS THAT USE A MATERIAL WHICH GREATLY REDUCES THE LIKELIHOOD OF REAR WHEEL SKID. ACTIONS TAKEN TO THE FRONT BRAKES ARE TO ENSURE UNIFORMITY OF THE ENTIRE BRAKE SYSTEM. ACTIONS TAKEN TO THE PARKING BRAKE COMPONENTS WILL ENSURE THAT THE PERFORMANCE REQUIREMENTS, FOR KEEPING THE VEHICLE STATIONARY WHILE MANUAL TRANSMISSION EQUIPPED UNITS ARE IN NEUTRAL AND AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION EQUIPPED UNITS ARE IN PARK, ARE MET.
UNDER CERTAIN CONDITIONS, THE REAR BRAKES COULD LOCK UP WITHOUT PRIOR WARNING DURING HIGH DECELERATION BRAKING. THE PROBLEM MAY BE CAUSED BY DEFECTIVE PROPORTIONER VALVES IN THE BRAKING SYSTEM.
THE DEALER WILL INSPECT THE BRAKE SYSTEM PROPORTIONER VALVES AND IF NECESSARY INSTALL NEW VALVES.
THE TURN SIGNAL FLASHER UNIT INSTALLED ON THE INVOLVED VEHICLES FAILS TO CONFORM TO FEDERAL MOTOR VEHICLE SAFETY STANDARD NO. 108, "LAMPS, REFLECTIVE DEVICES AND ASSOCIATED EQUIPMENT". THIS INCORRECT UNIT CAUSES THE FLASH RATE TO BE TOO FAST OR RENDERS INOPERATIVE THE FEATURE WHICH CAUSES THE TURN SIGNAL INDICATOR LIGHT(S) IN THE INSTRUMENT PANEL TO REMAIN LIT IF ONE OF ONE OR MORE OF THE TURN SIGNAL LIGHTS HAS FAILED.
DEALER WILL INSTALL THE CORRECT FLASHER UNIT WITHOUT CHARGE TO OWNER.
