Water might accumulate in the spare tire wheel well and damage the fuel pump control unit, which could cause an engine stall while driving.
An engine stall while driving increases the risk of a crash.
Dealers will install a water drain plug, inspect for water intrusion, and replace the fuel pump control unit as necessary, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed February 15, 2023. The affected vehicles have axle bolts on the front and/or rear drive axle carriers that may not have been assembled correctly. As a result, the remaining bolts may fracture.
If any of the remaining front or rear axle bolts fracture, the vehicle may be unstable, reducing the handling capability and increasing the risk of a crash.

Issue: On certain vehicles, water could leak into the rear of the vehicle and build up in the spare tire wheel well. If this happens, the fuel pump control unit could short circuit and cause the engine to stall. Note: This problem could cause a check engine light to turn on, a damp carpet in the cargo area and/or the sound of water moving in the spare wheel well while driving. Safety Risk: A sudden loss of power to the wheels could increase the risk of a crash. Corrective Actions: Mercedes-Benz will notify owners by mail and instruct you to take your vehicle to a dealership to inspect for water leaks and install a drain plug in the spare wheel well. The fuel pump control unit will be replaced, if necessary. To reduce the safety risk, you should regularly check for moisture in the cargo area and spare wheel well.

On certain vehicles originally sold or currently registered in areas of heavy road salt usage during winter months (Quebec, New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island, and Newfoundland & Labrador), the bolts that attach the electric power steering assist motor to the steering gear housing may corrode and break. This could cause a loss of power steering assist. The resulting increase in steering effort could create the risk of a crash causing injury and/or damage to property. Correction: Dealers will replace the mounting bolts and apply a corrosion protection coating to the gear housing and bolts. If the bolts bolt cannot be removed, a replacement steering gear will be installed.

This could increase the risk of fire causing injury and/or damage to property. Correction: Dealers will inspect the ACS reservoir for proper oil level and replace the sealing cap with an updated part.
