THE INVOLVED VEHICLES WERE BUILT WITH AN ALUMINUM REAR BUMPER REINFORCEMENT ATTACHED TO TWO STEEL MOUNTING SURFACES. IN CLIMATES WHERE LARGE AMOUNTS OF ROCK SALT ARE USED, THE ALUMINUM REINFORCEMENT COULD EXPERIENCE CORROSION WHERE IT ATTACHES TO THE VEHICLE.
DEALER WILL INSPECT ALL INVOLVED VEHICLES FOR DEGREE OF CORROSION. WHERE CORROSION IS SEVERE, THE ALUMINUM REINFORCEMENT WILL BE REPLACED WITH ONE MADE OF STEEL. WHERE CORROSION IS NOT SEVERE, DEALER WILL INSTALL INSULATION MATERIALS BETWEEN THE ALUMINUM AND THE STEEL COMPONENTS. THIS WILL BE DONE AT NO COST TO OWNER.

SOME OF THE INVOLVED VEHICLES MAY HAVE DEFECTIVE CARBURETORS IN WHICH, UNDER CERTAIN CIRCUMSTANCES, THE SECONDARY THROTTLE PLATES MAY STICK OPEN.
DEALER WILL INSPECT AND, IF NECESSARY, REPLACE THE CARBURETOR AT NO CHARGE TO OWNER.

THE INVOLVED VEHICLES WERE FITTED WITH TILT STEERING COLUMNS CONTAINING TRANSMISSION CONTROL INSERTS INTENDED FOR TRUCKS RATHER THAN PASSENGER VEHICLES. THIS MAY CAUSE THE TRANSMISSION SELECTOR POINTER TO BE MISALIGNED AND THE POSSIBILITY OF STARTING THE ENGINE WHEN THE SELECTOR IS BETWEEN THE NEUTRAL (N) AND DRIVE (D) DETENTS AND THE TRANSMISSION IS IN DRIVE.
DEALER WILL INSPECT AND, IF NECESSARY, REPLACE THE TRANSMISSION SHIFT CONTROL INSERT, WITHOUT CHARGE TO OWNER.

THE ALUMINUM REAR BUMPER REINFORCEMENT (ATTACHED TO TWO STEEL ISOLATOR MOUNTING BRACKETS) MAY EXPERIENCE GALVANIC CORROSION TO THE EXTENT THAT THE MATERIAL STRENGTH OF THE REINFORCEMENT WOULD BE REDUCED AND POSSIBLY THE REINFORCEMENT AND REAR BUMPER COULD DETACH FROM THE VEHICLE.

VEHICLES EQUIPPED WITH TILT STEERING COLUMNS. SOME TILT STEERING COLUMNS CONTAIN TRANSMISSION CONTROL INSERTS (GEAR SELECTOR POINTERS) THAT WERE INTENDED FOR USE IN 1978 MODEL TRUCKS. USE OF THESE INSERTS COULD ALLOW THE ENGINE TO BE STARTED WITH THE SHIFT SELECTOR POSITIONED BETWEEN NEUTRAL (N) AND DRIVE (D) AND THE TRANSMISSION IN DRIVE. THERE IS A POSSIBILITY OF STARTING THE VEHICLE WITH THE TRANSMISSION IN DRIVE CREATING THE POTENTIAL FOR A FRONTAL COLLISION.

1977 Lincoln Mark V recall questions
NHTSA lists 4 recalls for the 1977 Lincoln Mark V model year. That counts campaigns naming this model year, not recalls on your vehicle: many cover only a VIN range or production window. Transport Canada lists 2 Canadian campaigns for the Canadian-market model, shown separately.
Enter your VIN in NHTSA's recall lookup or Lincoln's own, or call a Lincoln dealer with your VIN. Cardog uses your VIN only to find the model year; the recalls shown here are listed for that model year and are not matched to your VIN.
Not necessarily. Transport Canada campaigns cover vehicles sold in Canada. For a vehicle sold in the United States, go by the NHTSA listing and NHTSA's VIN lookup.
Safety recall repairs are normally done at no charge by an authorized Lincoln dealer. The manufacturer's notice for each campaign sets out the remedy and any conditions, so confirm with the dealer when you book.
Once Lincoln's lookup or a dealer confirms a recall applies, book the repair with an authorized Lincoln dealer and bring your VIN. If the manufacturer's notice says not to drive the vehicle or to park it outside, follow that instruction. Parts can take time, so book early.
Follow the manufacturer's notice for that recall. Most allow normal driving until the repair; some tell owners to stop driving or to park outside until it is fixed. Cardog does not grade recalls by severity: the manufacturer's notice and your dealer are the source.
Manufacturers must notify owners they have on record. If you bought the vehicle used or have moved, update your details with Lincoln so notices reach you, and check NHTSA's lookup from time to time.
