THE FRONT AIR BRAKE HOSE MAY CONTACT THE INNER FENDER ON THE LEFT AND/OR RIGHT SIDES OF SOME TRUCKS. IN SOME INSTANCES, THE BRAKE HOSE MAY RUB THROUGH, RESULTING IN A LOSS OF AIR PRESSURE UPON BRAKE APPLICATION. CONSEQUENCE OF DEFECT: BRAKE HOSE MAY RUB THROUGH CAUSING AIR PRESSURE LOSS WHEN BRAKES ARE APPLIED AND REDUCED BRAKING ABILITY. A REDUCTION OF BRAKING ABILITY AT A TIME WHEN MINIMUM STOPPING DISTANCE IS REQUIRED COULD RESULT IN A VEHICLE CRASH WITHOUT PRIOR WARNING.
INSTALL NEW BRAKE CHAMBER SUPPORT BRACKETS, BRAKE LINE ELBOWS, AND AIR BRAKE HOSES, AS NECESSARY.

THE DUAL AIR RESERVOIRS OF SOME TRUCKS WERE EQUIPPED WITH CARBON STEEL SPRINGS INSTEAD OF STAINLESS STEEL SPRINGS, AS INTENDED. THE CARBON STEEL SPRING IS MORE SUSCEPTIBLE TO RUSTING THAN THE STAINLESS STEEL SPRING. THIS RUSTING COULD CAUSE THE CHECK VALVE TO FAIL, CAUSING TOTAL LOSS OF FRONT AND REAR BRAKES.
THE AIR TANK WILL BE INSPECTED AND, IF NECESSARY, THE AIR VALVE WILL BE REPLACED WITH ONE CONTAINING A STAINLESS STEEL SPRING.

SEVERE BRAKE CHATTER MAY CAUSE THE FRONT AXLE BRAKE CHAMBER MOUNTING BRACKETS TO DEVELOP CRACKS IN THE WELD AREA WHERE THE S-CAM TUBE ATTACHES TO THE CHAMBER SUPPORT SECTION. BRACKET FAILURE COULD RESULT IN LOSS OF FRONT WHEEL BRAKING AND POSSIBLE RESTRICTION IN STEERING CONTROL. THIS COULD CAUSE VEHICLE CRASH WITHOUT PRIOR WARNING. CORRECTION:REINFORCED FRONT AXLE BRAKE CHAMBER MOUNTING BRACKETS WILL BE INSTALLED AND,IF NOT FITTED,A FRONT BRAKE LIMITING VALVE.

On certain vehicles, a carbon steel check valve spring was mistakenly installed in the dual compartment air reservoir. Usage of carbon steel springs in this application can result in severe corrosion and subsequent failure. If a leak develops in the primary air system, air would not be checked or isolated from the failed system and air would flow from the secondary system and exhaust at the point of leakage resulting in loss of service brakes and application of the emergency spring brakes. If the driver ignores the low air pressure warning light and buzzer and fails to pull off the road - crash

1983 GMC C7 recall questions
NHTSA lists 2 recalls for the 1983 GMC C7 model year. That counts campaigns naming this model year, not recalls on your vehicle: many cover only a VIN range or production window. Transport Canada lists 3 Canadian campaigns for the Canadian-market model, shown separately.
Enter your VIN in NHTSA's recall lookup or GMC's own, or call a GMC dealer with your VIN. Cardog uses your VIN only to find the model year; the recalls shown here are listed for that model year and are not matched to your VIN.
Not necessarily. Transport Canada campaigns cover vehicles sold in Canada. For a vehicle sold in the United States, go by the NHTSA listing and NHTSA's VIN lookup.
Safety recall repairs are normally done at no charge by an authorized GMC dealer. The manufacturer's notice for each campaign sets out the remedy and any conditions, so confirm with the dealer when you book.
Once GMC's lookup or a dealer confirms a recall applies, book the repair with an authorized GMC dealer and bring your VIN. If the manufacturer's notice says not to drive the vehicle or to park it outside, follow that instruction. Parts can take time, so book early.
Follow the manufacturer's notice for that recall. Most allow normal driving until the repair; some tell owners to stop driving or to park outside until it is fixed. Cardog does not grade recalls by severity: the manufacturer's notice and your dealer are the source.
Manufacturers must notify owners they have on record. If you bought the vehicle used or have moved, update your details with GMC so notices reach you, and check NHTSA's lookup from time to time.
