Suzuki Kizashi Recalls

Summary

Issue: On certain cars, due to the seating posture/position of the occupant, the occupant classification system (OCS) may not work properly. This could cause the airbag system to turn off the passenger-front airbag even when an adult is seated in the front passenger seat. Note: When the front passenger-front airbag is turned off, the PASS AIR BAG OFF indicator will light. Safety Risk: In a crash where an airbag is required, an airbag that does not deploy could increase the risk of injury for an adult passenger. Corrective Actions: Suzuki will mail a letter to owners to advise of this problem. A second letter will be sent once a corrective action has been determined.

Summary

Issue: On certain vehicles, the occupant classification system (OCS) may not work properly. This could cause the airbag system not to turn off the airbag when an infant or child is seated in the front passenger seat. This could also cause the passenger seat belt reminder to activate when the seat is empty. Note: This problem only affects vehicles with leather seats. Safety Risk: In a crash, an airbag that deploys in front of an infant or child increases the risk of injury. Corrective Actions: The company will notify owners by mail. Owners will be instructed to take their vehicle to a Suzuki service provider to have the front passenger seat cushion replaced.

Summary

On certain vehicles, a circuit board inside the Transmission Control Module (TCM) may develop a crack, preventing it from controlling the transmission properly. This could result in reduced vehicle speed and poor acceleration, which could increase the risk of a crash causing injury and/or property damage. Correction: Dealers will replace the TCM with a reprogrammed unit.

Summary

On certain vehicles, the detent pin within the shift lock structure may have been incorrectly positioned. An incorrectly positioned detent pin in combination with high temperature conditions could allow the transmission shift selector to be moved out of the PARK position without depressing the brake pedal. Depending which gear the driver selects, the vehicle could begin to move forward or backward immediately. This movement could result in property damage, or cause the vehicle to strike a bystander, potentially resulting in injury. Correction: Dealers will replace the shift selector assembly with an improved part which incorporates an extended detent pin.

Summary

On certain vehicles, a particular type of spider may weave a web in the evaporative canister vent line which may cause a restriction in the line. If this occurs, the fuel tank pressure may become excessively negative when the emission control system works to purge the vapors from the canister. As the canister is purged repeatedly during normal operation, the stress on the fuel tank may eventually result in a crack causing a fuel leak. Fuel leakage, in the presence of an ignition source, could result in a fire causing injury and/or property damage. Correction: Dealers will inspect the canister vent line and replace it with a line containing a filter. If a web is found in the old line, the fuel tank will also be replaced

Summary

On certain vehicles, the bolts that fasten the drive plate to the torque converter may not have been sufficiently tightened during vehicle assembly. Should these bolts loosen, they could become caught between the drive plate and the cylinder block, which may cause the engine to stall, resulting in a loss of motive power. This could increase the risk of a crash causing injury and/or property damage. Correction: Dealers will affect repairs.

Summary

Certain vehicles may fail to conform to Canada Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (CMVSS) 201 - Occupant Protection. The instrument panel center lower box door may not remain closed during a vehicle crash, increasing the risk of personal injury to the occupants. Correction: Dealers will replace the instrument panel center lower box with an updated version.
